mel head shot resiz bestMarch Madness

by Melody Green

Sports fans unite! This is a big month. Everywhere we look there are tournaments and trophies.  Championships.  Winners and losers.  The recent talk of not keeping score at childrens games?  Never gonna happen.  We are created to compete.  To strive for the gold.  To succeed with excellence.  To win the prize.  The crown.

From Goliath to gladiators to gridiron, God knows all about sports.  “Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize.  Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last; but we do it to get a crown that will last forever.”
1 Cor. 24-25 NIV

Battle in Miniature

Each sporting event this month is a microcosm of the spiritual battles we fight everyday.  In one way or another, we’ve all felt the thrill of victory -- the agony of defeat.  But we can’t let the comfort of the thrill, nor the despondence of the agony, stall us for too long in our journey.  We need to keep running the race towards God even when we’re limping, or perhaps while we’re being carried.  After all, we are racing for the real gold. Streets of gold.  The crown we win at our finish line is not like any crown won in the world.  Our crown will be incorruptible.

We all have our cheerleaders and our enemies. But those who want to see us defeated need to deal with the Captain of our team.  He is fierce and goes to war on our behalf. We serve the Champion of Champions and He’s never asleep at the wheel, although sometimes we might wonder...  Our God is almighty and all powerful.  We may lose a few battles but the ultimate victory has already been won for us.
Remember what Jeremiah proclaimed,  “The LORD is with me like a dread champion; Therefore my persecutors will stumble and not prevail.  They will be utterly ashamed, because they have failed; With an everlasting disgrace that will not be forgotten.”  Jer. 20:11 NASB

Jeremiah knew his God, and his God is our God.
He will do no less for us.

High Court Gets Last Call

So this month while enjoying the games remember to stay strong in your own race.  In your own personal battles.  If you are on God’s side, He is on yours -- cheering you on.  The enemy may be invisible or may be sitting right next to you.  Call out to God.  To fight for you.  To defeat your enemy.  To make things right and to keep your heart right.

Don’t give up, in spite of what the scoreboard in your head tries to tell you.  God doesn’t keep score the same way we do.  Whenever “team evil” wants to mess with you, remember who your Captain is.  One day in His court all scores will be settled.  Listen to Him and do what He says.  He is your dread Champion!

Thank you Melody. I coach a Homeschool basketball team in Mt. Pleasant, TX and we struggled with this issue this past season. I tried to tell parents the same thing you said in this message. Some received it while others...We are at war. There is a Very real enemy out there who wants to destroy us so that he can hinder God's kingdom. Competition readies us for the attacks of the enemy. It teaches us to not only be on the deffensive but also how to attack and storm the gates of hell!
I also wanted to say that I got saved when I was 32, back in 1994, long after your husband went to be with Jesus. I am recently being awakened to Keith's music and it has made a great difference in me. His music and teachings are spurring me on to uncompromising faith in Jesus. We didn't have him around long enough (a fact I'm sure that you are aware of) but, his music and ministry live on to the glory of God!!!
Thank you again. May God bless you and the ministry!

Thank you so much for bringing this point home! I happen to work in and live near Mt. Pleasant, Texas as well, but sm about to launch a weight loss and wellness ministry/ service that truly encompasses a kind of battle for many of us. At the heart of this is a partnership in goal-setting called. . . coaching! It was great to read your perspective and be reminded of how important our struggle is, and that it is primarity a spiritual one. I pray often that I can keep my focus clear as I reach out to fill this need and follow the Lord! Thank you and God bless you! PS-- I attended Warehouse Ministries in Sacramento as a young adult, when Keith used to come play, and it stirred a fire in me I can still use as a touchstone. My husband and I both love his music and the LDM message you and Keith and your team have been faithful vessels to share with the world, especially the pro-life message. My mom once spent the night in jail for a sit-in at an abortion clinic!! Abortion has a huge and negative societal impact--this is what they don't see or tell you. So much respect has been lost. How can we blame young people for losing respect for an adult entity that makes this practice a 'legal' right??? When the space shuttle tragedy happened, my mom went out jogging and cried out to God, Why? And He said, Look down. She looked down at her suit and He said, What color is it? She said pink and baby blue. And He said, That's why. She suddenly understood that He is grieving over abortion in our country, a country founded initially on Him. I pray with all my heart we can all press on to keep raising awareness that God is not pleased with this and I pray God's blessings on you & your family!
First-off, it is a Miracle... (Guest) 03/19/2011 12:06
That is what the man inside me says. That I can even write and communicate with you. You guys are such a treasure at Last Days Ministries. I never thought that I would live this long. To imagine I lived 40 years of my life and never heard a Keith Green song, (if I did, it was without my knowledge)God walked me like that 40 years long, As' I was leaving myself out there like that too, One way or another I missed out. The enemy owned my life for the first 40 years of it, Christ gets the rest. Sorry' if I sound star struck, but you guys are my type of people, I never thought that I would live to see the days of Christianity in my life. You all are like rock stars, but stars of God's kingdom here come on earth.
I listen to Keith Green's music all the time now. He was the Christian artist I was searching for, as far as music goes. As' you guys really wrote/write the songs through Christ that the world really needs to hear. I get tired of the fakes.
I am running that race. March Madness it is. Go! Huskies! UW, Go PAC Ten. I know I am one of those Christians that people scratch their heads about on this stuff.

When Paul wrote this, the traditional thing back then was that only one got the prize -- win. However, there are races we know today in which the whole team gets the same prize for the win: (1) cross country state meet (top fastest 5 times per team wins the race); and, (2) track and swimming 4 x 4 relays. Thought you might like to know.

We are now in the day of the Lord, which has come like a thief, just as Jesus stated He would also do. The man (as Elijah, as John the Baptist) fulfilling the "return-of-Elijah" commission of Malachi 4:5-6 has already come, so have the two witnesses of Revelation 11 as well as the Revelation 10:7 angel-messenger. It behooves us to find out who these men were, as Jesus was Himself not coming back as a man in His 2nd thief-like appearing, ongoing now, and what Jesus has come and is come (ongoing -- John 14:3, 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17, Matthew 24:30a, Rev. 10:7, and chapters 11 -12, 1 Corinthians 13:9-13 and 1 Peter 1:1-7, not forgetting this one thing -- 2 Peter 3:8.

Thank you Melody for this inspiring post. You are right, each game, each battle we fight everyday no matter physical or spiritual one is our life experience. In my life I value every failure that once happened to me, since it only a lesson how not to act next time. :)
