Still Speaking after 31 Years in Heaven

Share Your Memories of Keith Green

Keith Green FB Share Your Memo
We want to give everyone an opportunity to share their memories of how Jesus used Keith to impact their life.  And gather all the stories in one place for everyone to enjoy.

Keith sure impacted my life.  After Jesus, he was my biggest influence.  Keith modeled giving everything to Jesus, not wanting celebrity, caring for the poor, taking people off the streets, and reaching into prisons.  We did that from the start together.

I would love to know what your story is.  How did Keith impact your life?  Were you at a concert?  Was it through the music?  Are you in ministry?  On the mission field?

How did Keith impact you, and what are you doing now that you think you might not be doing — if not for his influence?

Please share your story in the comment section below.

I’ll start!

When Keith died, I'd been a fan for about a year and owned all of his records, which I listened to over and over. When I heard the news, my first thought was, "He's with his Lord now - how happy he must be!" and I had a vision of him holding a child by each of his hands, walking them up to the throne of God to meet their Creator. I even wrote Melody a poem about it and sent it to her, although I don't know if she ever got it. Many years later, I serenaded my mom in the ICU over the 11 days she was there, singing Keith's version of "The Lord is My Shepherd", from her favorite psalm, over and over to her. Keith's music, to this day, speaks volumes to me.

When I first heard Keiths music on cd (my sister had one), I was not really impressed by the voice. It did not really match my musicstyle. But then I focused on the words. They often shaked me and spoke to me. Every song is a little traesure for me and at least I started to enjoy the fresh and natural voice of Keith! When I listen to his music, I take the time to listen carefully to the words. God bless you Melody!

I'm 65 years old; I was saved at the Brownsville Revival in Pensacola in 1995. I remember Steve Hill remarking about Keith Green; his Christian walk; his devotion and his music. I did not know who Keith Green was at the time. I moved from Pensacola to Akron Ohio and have just discovered Keith's music and story. It is remarkable how God used him and his talent. His music has helped me with my walk with God. The music is timeless; as the Bible is timeless. I thank God that you are keeping his memory and music available to all.

'Asleep in the light' is the song that impacted my life, to see somebody stand up and say it how it was. To identify the apathy and self-centred nature of (some) churches was a wake up call for me and the world. Thank you to Keith Green for showing us how to live a Christ centred life in a modern world.

I was in third year in Presbyterian Boys' Secondary School (Ghana). The year was 1988. The meeting was meant to be a Scripture Union(Campus Christian fellowship) meeting. The student who led the meeting, played a Keith Green song and did an exposition on the song! He played 'You love the world (and you're avoiding me)'. That song made a tangible difference in the way I took decisions in my Christian life from that day on. I have since then continued to listen to each Keith Green song with rapt attention, knowing that the lyrics had a sermon for me.
God Bless you, Keith.
God Bless you, Melody for keeping up the flame.

Listened and learned from Keith's songs as a high school and college student! He was an amazing example of "being and giving all" for Jesus! I loved his songs, lyrics and heart. I sang them in youth group, the BSU at Auburn, and our small groups at church. Melody your grace and witness of strength in the Lord through the years is inspiring. Enjoy still singing his songs and telling our kids about his passionate testimonies for the Lord! Blessings and love for the Keith Green family.

I can truthfully say that Keith’s music (yours too, Melody) was the sound tract of our lives as we were raising our children. We were able to see him in concert a couple of times. When he died we were all devastated at his loss. We cried, and our children cried. We were able to attend one of the many memorial gatherings Melody held.
When our children were grown they attended Taylor University in Indiana. The day that we enter my daughter’s dorm floor to set up her room, what did we hear? The sound of Keith’s voice singing…a student all those many years later was playing his music. Our kids said they gained some status because they had actually heard him in person. It is a testimony to the power of the Holy Spirit that cannot be diminished by death, that his music lives on. He still challenges me through his life and music.
Melody, you have been a tremendous example as well. Your passion for the unborn has kept me involved in volunteering for years. You and Keith left an indelible mark on our lives.

Keith had an amazing talent of bringing scripture to life. His song 'Prodigal' always spoke to my heart, and interestingly enough, I was able to play it during a talk that I gave at a local nursing home several years ago. It had a POWERFUL effect on the many gathered there that day! Thank you brother Keith = I'm looking forward to worshipping with you in Glory someday!

Keith Green had a tremendous influence in my Christian walk. I got saved 1976 in a little church Hawthorne Assemble of God in Southern California. My brother was the first to become a Christian in our Buddhist household. This was later era of the Jesus movement. We used to go to Calvary Chapel in Costa Mesa, CA when they had Friday night concerts with host Randy Ziegler. We used to listen to Keith's music all the time and it formed our understanding of the human struggles to follow Jesus and the grace of God in His patience to love us and challenge us to take up our crosses and follow in obedience. His music was so prophetic and brought conviction simply by listening to the words and catchy melodies. Later as I started to play music I would often play his songs to share with others. His words communicated so clearly what I felt in my heart. His songs became my life story and struggles and passion to follow Jesus. Even today, I can put on a song of his and it will take me back in those days to the grass roots of Christianity.
