Still Speaking after 31 Years in Heaven

Share Your Memories of Keith Green

Keith Green FB Share Your Memo
We want to give everyone an opportunity to share their memories of how Jesus used Keith to impact their life.  And gather all the stories in one place for everyone to enjoy.

Keith sure impacted my life.  After Jesus, he was my biggest influence.  Keith modeled giving everything to Jesus, not wanting celebrity, caring for the poor, taking people off the streets, and reaching into prisons.  We did that from the start together.

I would love to know what your story is.  How did Keith impact your life?  Were you at a concert?  Was it through the music?  Are you in ministry?  On the mission field?

How did Keith impact you, and what are you doing now that you think you might not be doing — if not for his influence?

Please share your story in the comment section below.

I’ll start!

I surrendered my life to Jesus while listening to the song, "I Can't Believe It," I was deeply moved by the relationship with God that Keith had. On that day in January of 1999, I prayed in reference to Keith, "I want what he has!" And God honored that prayer.

Keith Green...where do I begin? I was only 11 years old when Keith left this world for his eternal home. As a child, I loved his music. As an adult, his music helps me focus and keep hold on the narrow way. God still uses Keith's music and his obvious "Jesus Freak" love of Christ today. Now, my kids love his music and I share with others Keith's great influence in my life. My niece was murdered in 1991 at the age of 5 1/2 by drug dealers. Her father took her into a very bad situation. Her favorite song? The Easter Song as sung by Keith. One of the many comforts that comes my way is the thought that she gets to hear Keith sing it, as they praise their King together in heaven. I'm so very thankful for Keith Green!

Although I grew up singing Create in Me a Clean Heart, I was unfamiliar with Keith Green as an artist/worship leader. It was when I attended a ministry school years later that I really began to hear Keith's name mentioned as someone who was full of passion and uncompromising devotion. I soon bought a 'Best Of' album and I was captured from the first track! The words that Keith sang were so transparent and real, songs of meaty substance in a Christian contemporary music world that was full of fluff and feel good melodies. Through the years, I have found myself pondering many of his songs in prayer. As ministers, my husband and I had a conversation about Keith's song, I Pledge My Head to Heaven, asking each other if we had really come to that place in our ministry and lives. We allowed the sweet conviction of the Holy Spirit penned through Keith's words to search us out. There was another season where I wore out the song, The Lord is My Shepherd, which is still one of my favorites. I was in a time of seeking the Lord's direction and I played it over and over as a reminder of God's faithfulness and my simple need to Trust. Even this past week, I was before the Lord feeling a little 'colder' in my heart than I wanted to feel. As I confessed my need of being closer to him, the lyrics to I Don't Want to Fall Away From You came to me. In that moment, they became my prayer. I am so thankful that Keith's prayers and songs have become my own. For Keith and Melody's example of true discipleship, I say thank you. Here's to a full reward in heaven!

I was saved in 1980. I really took Keith's music to heart. I had come out of a very broken past which included drugs, alcohol, and a promiscuous lifestyle, including two abortions. Somehow, your brochure on abortion ended up in my hands, which brought me to the reality of what I had done. Through God's grace I found healing and spent 15 years as the director of a pregnancy center.
Now I serve in a house of prayer, working with young people, who by the way, some sing you and Keith's songs and speak of the influence you both have had in their lives.

Shortly after becoming a Christian at the age is 14 my husband(then boyfriend) introduced me to Keith's music. I had not grown up in a Christian home and really did not understand what "the love if Christ" really was. Honestly Keith taught me that through his songs and preaching. He was and still is one of the most influential people in my walk with Christ. My husband and I listen to his music often and it still moves me to be a better follower of my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Our daughter is now a 21 year old college student and she too loves Keith's music and just yesterday text us to say she was at her favorite coffee shop listening to Keith Green and reading No Compromise! We live just a few miles from where Keith and your beautiful children are buried and have been there a couple of times. It is such a perfect place for a man like Keith to be laid to rest! We will go and place flowers there this week in all their memories. Thank you for keeping his music alive. You too are an amazing woman of God. Bless you and your girls.

I was saved in 1985, and listened to Keith Green all the time. His songs were like sermons put to music that always led you to Jesus. It was like song and teaching at the same time. I know I am here today partly because those tapes played a huge part in my life. I have recently started listening to them again. They are still the same... timeless! Oh that this generation would have a Keith Green! To lead them to Jesus!

I still put on "Thank you, Jesus", the ultimate thanksgiving song! His life was truly anointed by God, and his songs still carry that anointing. Thank you for continuing on with God's call and enduring to the end!

My husband and I will be married 31 years this year. When he first came courting, he bought a Keith Green LP. Fell in love with both. By the time we married Keith had passed on. We moved to Chicago and saw Melony speak while pregnant about Keith and his legacy. I was young and did not fully understand the depth of this Godly woman.
My husband and I were Christians but his music has always, always been a part of our lives. Our three children know all his songs and have read his autobiography.
What a wonderful blessing.

It is so hard to put into words the effect of Keith's music on my walk with God. It continues to this day and I am 62 years old! :) There is an honesty to it and a simplicity that is so profound. There is not much out there in the way of Christian music that compares to it (in my view). So I am so grateful for how the Lord used Keith's ministry in my life and the lives of my friends and even my children! And thanks for your part in all of it, Melody! <3

I was part of the prayer team of students at Oral Roberts University for that Holy moment at the Mabee Center in Tulsa, OK. The Holy Spirit honored Keith's desire for revival, and our earnest prayers for our fellow students. Thank you for the poster that depicts the prayer response around the piano, it is a daily reminder of how the Lord loves us and wants a deep and pure kinship with us. I remember that night with fondness. Keith taught me that I could be bold and passionate about the Lord, and more than that, so deeply in love with Him that it makes an impression on people. He made it Okay to live out the prophet and the teacher gifts that God placed in me. He made it Okay to be an outcast from the timid crowd.
