Still Speaking after 31 Years in Heaven

Share Your Memories of Keith Green

Keith Green FB Share Your Memo
We want to give everyone an opportunity to share their memories of how Jesus used Keith to impact their life.  And gather all the stories in one place for everyone to enjoy.

Keith sure impacted my life.  After Jesus, he was my biggest influence.  Keith modeled giving everything to Jesus, not wanting celebrity, caring for the poor, taking people off the streets, and reaching into prisons.  We did that from the start together.

I would love to know what your story is.  How did Keith impact your life?  Were you at a concert?  Was it through the music?  Are you in ministry?  On the mission field?

How did Keith impact you, and what are you doing now that you think you might not be doing — if not for his influence?

Please share your story in the comment section below.

I’ll start!

While I was stationed in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia for Desert Storm, a box of books was shipped to our building and I was rummaging through them and found Keith Green's biography. I had never heard of him before but felt led to pick up this book and read it. I wasn't really walking with the Lord at the time and this book inspired me. Currently, I have a Keith Green CD in my alarm clock/CD player so I wake up to his singing. Sometimes I wake up during the night and can't sleep, so I listen to Keith sining and it helps me sleep. I never met Keith, never even heard of him till that day I found his book in Saudi Arabia but I feel like he is a friend.

It was 1:AM maybe ten years ago. I was asleep. I always keep my TV on the Game Show Network at night because it has (usually) non interesting things that doesn't waken me. I was hearing a young boy singing and playing the piano as I slept, and awakened. The emcee said that his name was Keith Green. I watched until it was over, knowing that this young man must have used his amazing talents to become something great. I got up and scoured my computer until I finally found his story in eight(or so)segments on You Tube. Throughout his story, I fell in love with him and his music which said so much and was so thankful that I had searched until I had learned his story. In the couple of hours that it took, since my computer was so slow and the quality was so poor back then, my heart was filled with love, gratefulness and joy, only to learn that he had perished in a plane crash along with others. God meant for me to find him. His singing has brought much joy into my life. Thank you Lord. Thank you, Melody for keeping him alive in our hearts. You are one great lady.

I still remember seeing him for the first time when I was a teenager as he walked out on stage barefoot (in Vermont). It was as if he was in God's living room giving Him a private worship time and we were allowed to watch and listen and sing along. His heart of worship forever changed and molded my heart, I am still a worship leader today and I thank the Lord for Keith's influence in that. We have recently brought back Oh Lord, You're Beautiful at our church and it's like a warm breeze washing over us every time we sing it.

This is a funny Keith story. My wife (a piano major) and I (a singer) used to do a lot of Keith's music at our church because of the great message and music. Our pastor said he had been in college when Keith was coming to their school in Minnesota to perform. My pastor got the honor of picking Keith up from the airport, and as they drove to the school they were listening to a tape my pastor had playing. Keith asked if he could look at the tape, so he popped it out. Then he rolled down the window and threw it out. He said, "that artist is my friend and he's trying to support his family, so please don't just copy his music, buy it." For what it's worth, all 4 CDs of Keith's music I have - I bought :)

I was a sophomore in high school in 1977 when my family moved to a new town and I had to begin from scratch making new friends and attending a new school and church. I first heard of contemporary Christian music that year and became familiar with Keith Green's music, My father was killed in a plane crash when I was four and my sister three, so I was deeply touched when I heard of the plane crash that took Keith and two of his children. My family was able to visit Last Day's Ministries and see the work that Keith began and that Melody continued the winter following the accident. Keith was so transparent and real and his music anointed that people are still being reached by it. He truly lived the Christian life and was sold out to the Lord. Thank you, Melody, for giving an opportunity for so many to share about how Keith impacted their lives. He truly impacted mine. I look forward to meeting him one day in heaven and hearing him sing, "There is a Redeemer".

I moved to Southern California in 1978 when I was just a teenager. I used to see Keith at church and hear him play at local venues. I was amazed at his humbleness. At one concert, he asked people not to take pictures of him because Jesus was the star, not him. He stopped playing and sat on the edge of the stage and said he would not continue if the crowd was there to see him, rather than hear about Jesus, and he meant it. He did not want to be a celebrity and he hated that part of being a musician. Once I wrote him a letter about something, and he handwrote a note back to me. He was so real and approachable, yet so gifted and full of the glory of Jesus! When I heard about his death, I was devastated. I still miss him.

Before I was saved a friend bought me a Keith Green Cassette tape. It was the one that had You Put this love in my heart. It was in 1978. I was in to some very heavy rock, and I told my friend, that I really liked his music. When I did get saved months later, his music was the first Christian music I got into. Keith was a big part of me growing up in the Lord. I was able to see Keith Green in concert years later in northern N.J. and I'll never forget his generosity. He had loads of albums piled up on the stage and told people to take the ones that they didn't have. I never saw anything like that. He also put on a second concert because there were so many people that couldn't get in. He just amazed me. His music and what he has done will live on forever.

I started listening to Keith's music shortly after his death. I was 19 years old and had been a Christian for about 8 years and had sung only hymns during church services. Keith's music was something new to me. The passionate, zealous love that Keith had for the Lord opened my eyes and my heart. I wanted the same kind of relationship with the Lord that Keith had. It was life changing!

Are you kidding? Keith and The Last Days Ministries gave me the fuel I needed to move forward as a babe in Christ. The sound Word of God woven throughout his music was something I dove head first into with my heart wide open. His love and compassion for Christ and the lost was contagious. I can't thank this man, Melody, and the entire staff of Last Days Ministries enough for offering me the albums at no charge or whatever I could afford. I have never known another ministry of its kind and was heartbroken when he and his two children were taken in the crash. I had become bonded through his music as part of the "family" and will continue through all eternity to be grateful for all you have given to me. To God be the glory and praise! I love you, Melody!
