Still Speaking after 31 Years in Heaven

Share Your Memories of Keith Green

Keith Green FB Share Your Memo
We want to give everyone an opportunity to share their memories of how Jesus used Keith to impact their life.  And gather all the stories in one place for everyone to enjoy.

Keith sure impacted my life.  After Jesus, he was my biggest influence.  Keith modeled giving everything to Jesus, not wanting celebrity, caring for the poor, taking people off the streets, and reaching into prisons.  We did that from the start together.

I would love to know what your story is.  How did Keith impact your life?  Were you at a concert?  Was it through the music?  Are you in ministry?  On the mission field?

How did Keith impact you, and what are you doing now that you think you might not be doing — if not for his influence?

Please share your story in the comment section below.

I’ll start!

Hello Melody and family. Keith music touch my heart. I loved how Keith put his whole heart into his music and you could feel his love for Jesus. He wanted so bad to be
close to Jesus and knew that it was hard to fight sin in our lives. He sang about
Jesus grace and love. I continued to go to his music through the years and the songs gave me such comfort. They help me draw closer to Jesus. When I heard on the radio
that Keith died and two of your kids. My heart broke esp for you Melody! You not only lost him, but you lost two of your precious kids. Also you were pregnant. Your faithfulness to Jesus in the most horrible time in your life has also minister to me. Your witness to the Lord sustaining you and giving grace to walk through the worse of grief a person could go through was/ is inspiring. Ps. Also, my son is a missionary in Tibet china and he was inspired by Keith as well. Blessings..

It was just after the album "Songs for the Shepherd" came out, & thus also just after Keith's faith became sight. My own faith was being restored after some years of trying to walk away from it. I was hanging out w/ the gorgeous Bama coed--now my wife of 29+ years--in a Christian bookstore in Tuscaloosa. I was looking through the music, and became just transfixed by what I heard playing in the store. It was Keith's rendition of Psalm 23, the first Keith Green song I ever heard. Just crushed me, in the best of ways. I went on a buying spree & wound up buying every album Keith released. I found my own story captured in a number of Keith's songs, including "Run to the End of the Highway" and "Prodigal Son Suite" among others. One of my favorite songs today is still "Rushing Wind." Another is "There Is A Redeemer." My faith is solid by the redeeming grace of our Lord; the music and life story of Keith Green figures prominently in drawing me back on course and in encouraging me to stay there. I'm just one of many who can't wait to tell Keith thanks "when we stand in glory..."

I saw Keith in concert, live before his first album came out. I was one of the last to get a seat. There were people all over the floor, standing, up front, down the center aisle. It was a sell out. I got the first album and nearly wore it out. "You Put This Love in My Heart" was my fav.

Life went on and I slipped badly into an old sinful life of Lesbianism. It was such a trap and so terrible. It persisted from 1981 until 2004. In the midst I married a wonderful man. I cheated on him and broke our vows. I was a wretch even though insisting I was a born again Christian I was severely disobedient, filled with lies and defeat.

I read Keith's book, "NO COMPROMISE" and something in me clicked. I feel that I've awoken from a nightmare. "Like wakin' up, from the longest dream, how real it seemed, until Your love broke through."

I've been "clean and sober" for fully 9 years and maybe even 10. I didn't mark down my last episode. I claim Jesus' blood for my salvation and Keith Green as an amazing and powerful tool for restoration and deliverance, PRAISE GOD!

In his teens my son Davey fell in love with Keith's music and message. He got his hands on every album, every speech, every writing, and hung on every word. He begged us (and anybody else) to also read and listen, giving away Keith's works to ensure the message would spread. Through Keith's impact he made the decision to become a youth pastor. Davey even tried to grow his hair like Keith's! Keith also made Davey aware that life is fleeting, tomorrow is not promised to anyone, and it is of utmost importance to make every day count for Christ. Davey became convinced that his own life was also going to be brief, and he was consumed with a desire to win as many to Christ as he could in whatever time he had. At age 20 Davey passed away of complications from an accident. Keith's music was played at his funeral. To this day many remind us of the impact Davey had and still has on their spiritual lives. We are eternally grateful for the part Keith played in all of this. We often console ourselves with the thought that Davey is getting to sing with Keith in heaven right now! Thank God for Keith Green.

Keith and his music had a major impact on my life. I was a little girl when Keith went home, but I remember liking his music a lot and that I was very sad. Time passed, as it tends to do, and I was 18 years old. I read Melody's book about Keith, and the seeds were planted. You see, I grew up knowing the Truth, but I rebelled. And Satan would tell me that there is no way that even if I gave my heart to Jesus that He would EVER be able to use me...that I was "too far gone". Then I read Keith's story, and my hardened heart began to soften. This was 1994. That summer, I lived in New London, Connecticut and I had a two-way conversation with God over several nights, that ended up with me accepting Jesus Christ as my savior, on a rusty fire escape in September, 1994. My life has not been the same since. When I returned home to Florida, I dove headfirst into the Bible, and Keith's music. God has used him in such a mighty way, to reach so many people like me. I am so thankful for Keith's willingness to be used by the Lord, and I cannot wait to hug my dear brother Keith and thank him for being a faithful, devoted servant of the Lord.

In 1981, I was 10 yrs. old, and living in a foster home.
My foster mother introduced me to Keith's music.
I became a Christian that year, and was very moved by Keith's songs.
I was so devastated to hear of the plane crash, and couldn't believe it.
I'm 42 today, and still so very moved by Keith's music and ministry.
My husband and I have been on the mission field a number of times, and still
feel very inspired by the convictions Keith held, and shared with the world.
Sometimes we just pull up a channel on youtube, and just listen to a bunch
of Keith's songs.
I'm always so challenged, and moved in a powerful way.
Something in the way Keith shares his heart through music stops me in my tracks.
I'm so thankful for Keith, and the way God has worked through his music.
Thanks to you as well, Melody. What an amazing story you have, and it's always heart breaking to remember, and inspiring as well.
Blessings to you and your family, and know that the life you and Keith shared still impacts all of us around the world.

I still miss Keith. I never met him but his music was, and still is, very influential in my life. I think the fact that his music still speaks life is a testimony to his desire to lift up Jesus and not himself. I like to imagine Keith and Rich Mullins up in heaven, both barefoot, jamming on the piano and guitar and singing praises. Thank you Melody for bravely carrying on.

I remember being in attendance at a concert in Long Beach, CA shortly before Keith died, when he said in regards to mission work, "If the Lord hasn't told you to stay then you better GO!"....and then shortly after he died, seeing Melody worshipping God at the arrival of YWAM's Anastasis (mercy ship) into San Pedro, CA. Her arms were raised in praise singing "Holy, Holy, Holy" to our Lord and then shouted, "Isn't she beautiful!" as the ship gracefully glided into the port. I am still inspired by these 2 events and these 2 individuals as well as Keith's music.

I was so impacted by Keith's music and listened to it all the time when I first became a christian in the 80's. It instilled such a love for God in me and a heart to serve Him. After completing 2 years of bible training, my husband and I went into full time ministry for over 20 years serving the nations of the world. It's so wonderful that you have kept his legacy going - my absolute favourite is .... so you wanna go back to Egypt. The Lord has reminded me of this song many times when I've wanted to give up. Thanks Keith and thanks Melody. Lots of love and blessings to you and all your family. xxx

How can anyone give tribute to someone whose transparent contribution evangelized my life. During one of the most difficult periods of time in my life Keith, Phil Keaggy, Kelly Willard to name a few powerfully provided the encouragement I needed to continue in my new found faith when everything I felt safe with was falling away. To this day in my 60's Keith's songs encourage and inspire me. What a wonderful gift Father God gave us in Keith. He promises that His will and purpose for our lives will be accomplished. And just as Jesus said on the cross when he died, "It is accomplished!". His purpose for Keith on this earth has been and will continue to be accomplished.
