Still Speaking after 31 Years in Heaven

Share Your Memories of Keith Green

Keith Green FB Share Your Memo
We want to give everyone an opportunity to share their memories of how Jesus used Keith to impact their life.  And gather all the stories in one place for everyone to enjoy.

Keith sure impacted my life.  After Jesus, he was my biggest influence.  Keith modeled giving everything to Jesus, not wanting celebrity, caring for the poor, taking people off the streets, and reaching into prisons.  We did that from the start together.

I would love to know what your story is.  How did Keith impact your life?  Were you at a concert?  Was it through the music?  Are you in ministry?  On the mission field?

How did Keith impact you, and what are you doing now that you think you might not be doing — if not for his influence?

Please share your story in the comment section below.

I’ll start!

I too listened to no compromise and it touched deep down into my spirit. but not just this one. All of his music - some left me elated, some soul searching but everyone of his songs impacted my life to bring about change and caring for Jesus. He showed me who Jesus is and how I should really live as a Christian. even the words without the music touch me deeply. And the story of his leaving us with his precious children has never left me nor has the concern i felt for Melody - i know you are at peace Melody but i still feel your pain. love you joan

I loved all of Keith's music and heart. "Open your eyes to the world all around you.." and "Jesus Commands Us to Go" played a big part in our call to missions full time 27 years ago. Never looking back!

I never met him, but saw him several times as a young woman at Christian concerts in the 70's. The difference in him was this...I always felt the anointing on his music, even the recordings could lead me to my knees. To this day, though I am in my 50's, I will tear up when singing some of his songs. They came from deep inside and they resonate within me still. That's his legacy. In fact, the friends I made from that time agree that his music personified the sanctification and consecration that must happen as a Christian. From love, we wanted to die to self to serve a risen Savior. It was an honor. He somehow brought that out in us. Singing his songs made you want to be a better servant... to be more like Christ. I can't help but imagine that what his motivation, to lead you to the cross, always to the cross.

My first child (son) had left for college. It was so difficult not having one of my "babies" at home that I just closed the door to his room to add to the denial. Finally I got up the courage to go in. I walked around looking at all of his things. Then I happened to open up his cassette player. In it was a tape of Keith Green songs. From that day on I was "hooked". I bought all of his tapes, books and the one video I could locate. (I know he didn't like to be filmed.)What an amazing man of God....I know he is now singing with the angels. His ministry continues to live on and on and on...........

I think a generation of people have sung songs like "Create in Me a Clean Heart" and "Oh Lord, You're Beautiful" without knowing that Keith wrote them. Timeless worship songs! For me, I can remember countless times that these songs ushered in the Holy Spirit during our weekly BSU worship services.

As a college student coming back to the Lord, Kieth's music captured my heart. Never before, and quite certainly never since, have I ever heard such anointed music. His connection with Christ, his zeal for the lost, his passion to see the Church move into action were, and continue to be life altering. His transparency in his struggles -- facing dry spells, feeling unworthy, etc. have helped to bail out my downcast soul many, many times. As life changing, Melody... was reading No Compromise. I was too young to ever see Kieth preform, but with the words of your book, I felt as thought I was there through every step of your journey. Your words are inspiring, heartwarming, spirit propelling, heartwrenching, and just plain amazing. It wasn't just Keith -- It was Kieth and Melody Green. You were the woman behind the man who Jesus used in such a mighty way. Thanks you Melody. Your passion to see Keith's work continue is awesome. Your journey through loss and your triumph in this life are completely and utterly awe inpsiring for me. For sure, you are among my mentors in the Faith. Thank you sweet sister. I'm SOOOO excited to worship with you and Keith together at the feet of Jesus someday. Much, much love to you!

I was able to attend a Keith Green concert in my mid-twenties. I took a friend and we cried and laughed and sang and shouted and was lead by Keith into the throne room...such an anointing! Keith made me want to give Jesus my all. I am a retired teacher now and took Jesus into the classroom with me. I married a Christian man and homeschooled my two boys. I still love Jesus with all my heart and now in my 60's I continue to serve him as a caregiver, praying with clients and sharing Jesus with those older than me. I have Keith's CD's and listen to them frequently. He greatly influenced me as a young Christian and inspires me to this day!!

I got radically saved Saturday morning July 11 1981 and that night was first time in 4 years I didnt get stoned or drunk ! It was only few months after graduated high school and ALL I did was listen to Keith Green albums and cassettes. I wore several out. Purchased atleast 6 no compromise and for him who has ears to hear and Songs for Shepherd. I knew every song by heart. I had friend who could play piano play anything she would listen to Keiths music few times and play it on piano...id go over her house every tuesday night for supper and after supper we would sit at piano and sing Keith Green songs for hours. One Sunday this was only few months after got saved Pastor announced i had special song to sing and my friend said it was song we sang other night at supper. Asleep in the light and sheep and goats...it was like a prophet speaking..everyone got blown away...from that day forward for next 3 years atleast once week id sing one of keiths songs...I was told i was like him in many ways and his music expressed alot of what was in me...also i was told had heart of pastor and very prophetic !! In 1984 met lady and she could play guitar she played all of keiths songs on her guitar ...we would go to prayer meetins or bible studies and id sing there is redeemer or make my life prayer or few others and that became my "brand" people knew me to sing those songs...they said it was expression of Fathers heart and when i sang it spoke to them how much God loved them !! When i went to bible school and became Pastor alot of people at school or at church would ask me to sing Keiths music ...I even did several concerts with my friend playing piano at her house singing keiths music with her and her husband...Few years ago my moms funeral I sang Psalm 23 Keiths version and many family and friends were so blessed told me how beautiful it was I was amazed how much God annointed it ...i even forgot few words and started over ? I THANK GOD for Keith Green and his music his expression of Fathers love has blessed me and many friends and family for last 33 years !!!!!!!

I was a young teen, around 14 years old, when I first heard Keith's music. The year was 1984. Unfortunately, by this time he had already passed into glory, so I never had a chance to see him in concert. I wish I could have! Since then, it never ceases to amaze me how much his music still challenges me. From "So You Wanna' Go Back To Egypt" to "Asleep In The Light", to "When I Hear The Praises Start". Little did I know back then that "The Prodigal Son Suite", and "Grace By Which I Stand" would become my personal testimony. Thank you Keith for being faithful to God. Thank you Melody for working with Keith, writing songs, and telling his life story in "No Compromise". Thank you to the Holy Spirit for calling us out of darkness & into the light, Thank you to our Lord Jesus Christ for dying & saving us from sin, and for giving us a new song to sing. Father God, thank you most of all for giving us your Son (Isaiah 6:8). Elohim- please keep challenging us!

Keith... I can't wait to sing a duet with you on that golden grand piano when I get to heaven... it will be a great praise song to our LORD for sure!

I attended Jesus West Coast, Santa Rosa 1982. Keith wouldn't let it be a concert. It had to be a worship Jesus service. As a musician I respected the intricacy of his music and beautiful quality of his voice. But as a new Christian, I primarily went to be entertained, not convicted by the Holy Spirit! Instead, I got this challenge, "This generation of Christians is responsible for this generation of souls on the earth." True then, and true now. I'm still being challenged by Keith's music, and message. I'm still thankful God loaned him to this nation as a musical Jeremiah or Isaiah.
