Still Speaking after 31 Years in Heaven

Share Your Memories of Keith Green

Keith Green FB Share Your Memo
We want to give everyone an opportunity to share their memories of how Jesus used Keith to impact their life.  And gather all the stories in one place for everyone to enjoy.

Keith sure impacted my life.  After Jesus, he was my biggest influence.  Keith modeled giving everything to Jesus, not wanting celebrity, caring for the poor, taking people off the streets, and reaching into prisons.  We did that from the start together.

I would love to know what your story is.  How did Keith impact your life?  Were you at a concert?  Was it through the music?  Are you in ministry?  On the mission field?

How did Keith impact you, and what are you doing now that you think you might not be doing — if not for his influence?

Please share your story in the comment section below.

I’ll start!

I don't actually recall when I first heard of Keith Green, but it had to be in the mid-to late 1970's I guess. I grew up in church and had a good Christian upbringing but I also saw a lot of legalism. I think it was Keith that broadened my understanding that Christians don't come from a "cookie-cutter" approach. Genuine Christianity comes out from the heart and not from appearances. I loved his music and I still have about 21 issues of various "Last Days Newsletters." I just ran across them the other day while cleaning out a room. I notice that some of the article titles seem to be timeless because we are still struggling with some of the same issues today as back then. I plan to reread each issue because I think Keith's biggest impact on me was through his writings. I was deeply saddened by his loss, yet I remain amazed at how his legacy has remained into this generation. He remains timeless because his message was timeless.

My husband, Vince and I, began writing and ministering Christian music in late 1975. n Spring of 1976, my darling husband, only 26, came down with acute leukemia, and went to be with Jesus May 13, 1976. He had been saved less than a year, but was the STRONGEST Christian I knew. When he passed on, I was devastated. He had decided not to continue his current career, but to become a Pastor just shortly before his death. Music was huge in our lives. In trying to raise our baby daughter and get my life back on track after such heartache I started hearing of this Christian singer named 'Keith Green'. From the first songs I heard, my broken heart started clinging more to Jesus, and those songs changed me so deeply! To this day, NO ONE'S music touches me like Keith's. I will forever be grateful for his ministry and will tell him "Thanks, brother" someday in Heaven.

Keith was not alive when I was born but my parents and Aunt would play his music often. I grew up listening to him and learning from his lyrics that call Christians to truly love and live for The Lord. I feel like his heart for The Lord and people flows through his music. I love the way he allowed God to use him for His glory. It inspires me to do the same.

We were new Christians and newly weds. My husband and I were given Keith Green albums to emcourage our new life and they were all we listened to. We purged our home of all other music and only listened to him. Charles wanted so much to attend Intensive Christian training sessions at the farm, but we didn't have the money as we were expecting our first child. We were able to attend a conference at Bradley University that spring and heard Keith live singing (he was ill but sang beautifully) We invited everyone we knew to come and listen. When he died we cried. It was so difficult to understand. In 1989 we moved to KC so Charles could become a Pastor and use his gifts to continue to proclaim God's word. Keith has continued to be a powerful reminder of God's love to all of us, but particularly a wake up call to the church to give ministry away for free - to share gifts God has given us with the world around us - to be loving to neighbors and friends in spite of bad behaviors and wrong choices. He was such a powerful influence! No one has been more authentic and giving as Keith. We know he was living in a glass house and that his spiritual growth happened publically - but what a testimony it is and always will be. Thank God we had him on earth as long as we did!

I was about 12 years old when I first heard Keith's music.. His fire and light for Jesus was bright and he inspired me to want to pass it on.. because to keep it in is a sin as he professed. My older Sister, Terry was very touched by him also.. I remember the last days ministries news letter..."Your love broke through" and "Oh Lord you're beautiful" are two of my favorite songs, but I love them all :) I pray I can be a bright light like Keith for my King.. Thank you dear brother for giving to the Lord!! Your light shines on... I still love and listen to your music and tell others about you and more importantly our Jesus!

I first heard Keith's music when I was in my twenties. I am in my fifties now. His music still impacts me. He will never be forgotten.

Back in the 1970's I heard my first Keith Green tape. I didn't have much money but the ministry gave them for free if you couldn't afford one. After listening to the music and the depth of the words, then realizing that Keith had only been a believer a few short years, it motivated my own growth and faith. Thank you Keith and Melody

I was healed of Kawasaki in 1980 at the age of 10. Our family came to Jesus Christ and we came into a personal relationship with Him. Keith's music and your ministry was the first to be introduced to me as a new young Christian. I LOVED his music and your news letters. His music, testimony and your ministry impacted my life at such a young age. It still does. I have all his CD's and some preaching videos. When he went home to be with Jesus, I was crushed. I was so sad for you and us. As a 10yr old girl, I wrote you letter and gave you $5. I am so very blessed by you, Keith and Last Day's Ministries. THANK YOU for carrying on the legacy. His music and testimony is still bringing the lost to HIM. The Lord Bless you and continue to favor you, your family and this ministry. Thank you for making a HUGE difference in my life at such a young age.

The first time I heard Keith sing the Spirit of God was heavy like rain in the room. His prophetic anointing was remarkable in that day and time, for it had never been seen on the Christian concert stage before. I heard his music first on an eight track tape, and did not realize that I had actually heard him before in Barry McGuire's and Second Chapter of Acts music. His songs penetrated the heart and spirit; the Spirit of God speaking volumes in one song. I went to Calvary Chapel to hear him one summer when I was off from college. When I graduated college in San Francisco and started a concert organization called Music Tree Productions, I contacted Keith to be a headliner for one of our nights of music. I had travelled to San Jose to hear him at another concert venue, and spoke with him after the service. He was interested but Melody had just had a miscarriage and he was canceling travel for awhile to be with her and help her through her time of healing. From the first moment I heard the ministry of the Spirit through his music, he was, and is, my favorite musician of all time. His music was not only excellent in craftsmanship but full of the presence and power of God! His messages were sharp, difficult and challenging. He would rip us up in a song, and we would ask for more because we knew the Word of the Lord when we heard it. The conviction of the Holy Ghost was pointed and deep in each song and many a tear was cried by these eyes as I echoed those messages with my own voice. Thank God for bringing him to a place of notariety at a time we needed a strong voice. He and Melody's tracts and Last Days Ministry messages were excellent and fulfilled another avenue of preaching the Word of God effectively. I miss his voice so very much today...much like I miss David Wilkerson's voice!! We need this anointing Father! I have thought about how he and David and Leonard are all together now, even as they lived in the same "neighborhood" here on earth. So thankful for the time we all had to hear the message of God through he and Melody's music! A special moment in time on this earth, and one that will live on with the same anointing today. It still accomplishes the same impact after all these years!

Keith impacted my life in the biggest way by teaching me NO COMPROMISE. It's that important lesson learned back then & is paramount to me today. I got saved at 19 years of age and enjoyed Keith's music so much! I was so blessed to be able to attend one of his concerts, by divine appointment. It was so much more than a concert. It was ministry. He connected with every person there. It was a night I will always remember. When I get to heaven...I will thank him for following Jesus, being obedient and a good example to us. Still love to sing along when one of his songs come on....: )
