Still Speaking after 31 Years in Heaven

Share Your Memories of Keith Green

Keith Green FB Share Your Memo
We want to give everyone an opportunity to share their memories of how Jesus used Keith to impact their life.  And gather all the stories in one place for everyone to enjoy.

Keith sure impacted my life.  After Jesus, he was my biggest influence.  Keith modeled giving everything to Jesus, not wanting celebrity, caring for the poor, taking people off the streets, and reaching into prisons.  We did that from the start together.

I would love to know what your story is.  How did Keith impact your life?  Were you at a concert?  Was it through the music?  Are you in ministry?  On the mission field?

How did Keith impact you, and what are you doing now that you think you might not be doing — if not for his influence?

Please share your story in the comment section below.

I’ll start!

I never met Keith, but he was influential on my life nonetheless. After falling away in college, I came back to Jesus at the church in West LA were Keith had his west coast spiritual roots, the church that sent out the Smalley family that ended up passing away with Keith. I remember praying for that family as we sent them out, and the Sunday before Keith died, I was baptized in the ocean at Santa Monica (which was also the day before my 22nd birthday.) I've always associated Keith with my baptism, which is fitting, because if anyone set a good example of being set apart to follow Christ, it was Keith.

Beyond the baptism though, Keith's music impacted my life greatly. Back then, there were times during ministry where it seemed like a got what I would call a Holy Spirit jolt - during a specific song lyric or when the pastor would say a particular phrase, I would feel a "jolt" (hard to describe.... it was sort of like when you're starting to nod off and your body jolts awake? it was like that, but I was already awake.) Anyhow, outside of church, about the only time I felt those "Holy Spirit jolts" was when I was listening to Keith's music. {"You... you can't even get out of bed...." ZAP! "OK, Lord! I'll get moving...."}

Anyhow, Keith's music had a huge impact on me, and his example of no compromise was very influential in keeping me following after and serving God for all these years.

I was introduced to Keith's music by my sister around 1986, when Keith had already passed on, and his music and Keith and Melody's story influenced me a lot in my Christian walk. But to cut a long story short, I wandered away from the Lord (for 19 years) until about a year ago when I just couldn't stand the emptiness any more and was amazed to find that God was still willing to have me back!- at which time I also rediscovered Keith's music. Just as all the things I had learned about God had stayed somewhere in my mind, so had Keith's songs - and so many times when reading my bible I recognise the lyrics of a song and find myself singing the song in my head. And so many times when I've been discouraged, there has been a song for that too. I am so grateful.

Keith's music and death had a profound impact on my life and still do. I had been listening to his music for a few years when my father was diagnosed with cancer when I was only 12. He died when I was 14, in 1981 and Keith's music was one of the things that helped to bring me through the pain of it that first year. When I found out that Keith died in such a tragic way, just 6 months after my dad, it was like my dad had died all over again. You see, my dad was a missionary here in the U.S. with Campus Crusade for Christ and he was almost as much of an evangelist as Keith was. We would be driving along and see a hitchhiker, my dad would pick him up, and by the time we dropped him at his destination 30 minutes later, he would be a christian! Both my dad and Keith had an infectious, radical love for Jesus that I will never forget. I am so grateful for Keith's music and ministry and the impact it has had on my life.

God's music through him was a great influence and comfort to me.

I have been listening to Keith's music for about 30 years. It is amazing how God has used Keith even so many years after he was called to heaven. His lyrics are just so powerful. They are so much more than songs.....

I was a kid who loved "cool" bands. So even though I was in Christian music, and saw any band I could, I remember skipping the last Keith concert I could have seen, in Denver. Cool is so relative. Keith is now one of my favorite artists. God is so far beyond cool, I am sorry to say so many times we go after what we think is cool, or even God moving, but then we miss the real move of God. Did He speak in the fire, earthquake or tornado, no, still small voice. God can speak anywhere and anyway He wants, because He is God. Keith was a burning light for a little while, one that did not long for this earth. Let us now miss the Lord, and visit Him where He is at instead of where we think He should be.

Saved by God in 1978, and the music of Keith-- couldn't stop listening. I was still living with my abusing father at the time, so those words helped me get through rough times by knowing Jesus was with me helping me make it. Thanks for continuing to share him with the world. His uncompromising dedication to God is what we need to continue to hear. To this day worshipping God while listening to Keith sing God's words brings me instantly into God's presence to lift Jesus' name higher! [Since then healed from the abuse. Thank you Jesus!]

I never got to meet Keith or hear him live but I purchased several of his cassettes and sheet music, I can remember hearing of his death by reading Melody's account in the front cover of one of the sheet music books. He had a profound influence on my life. His music was true to the word then and now. Still have his CDs in my car and on my IPOD. Keith is timeless!! God still speaks through Keith Green!!

First heard Keith Green at youth camp on the screen. I was pre-teen then. Started receiving the Last Days Ministries Magazine after that and listening to the music. Was so blessed by his heart’s cry of the Father’s message through the music and the boldness of everyone with him in ministry to boldy declare and walk the Scriptures in our day without charging for it! Now I too am involved in music ministry and just released my Messianic Music CD in English with Hebrew. Thank you for walking the walk in BOLD AND GREAT LOVE!

I believe he was already gone but still played a big part in my life. My oldest daughter was in her teens I could not stand any of her music and she said she didn't like Christian music then I found Keith's music bought all I could find and gave it to her she fell in love with his music later (I don't know how long went by) we found out he was gone and it broke her heart. Even when she was doing her own thing she still loved his music. She is now 35 and following our Lord.
