Still Speaking after 31 Years in Heaven

Share Your Memories of Keith Green

Keith Green FB Share Your Memo
We want to give everyone an opportunity to share their memories of how Jesus used Keith to impact their life.  And gather all the stories in one place for everyone to enjoy.

Keith sure impacted my life.  After Jesus, he was my biggest influence.  Keith modeled giving everything to Jesus, not wanting celebrity, caring for the poor, taking people off the streets, and reaching into prisons.  We did that from the start together.

I would love to know what your story is.  How did Keith impact your life?  Were you at a concert?  Was it through the music?  Are you in ministry?  On the mission field?

How did Keith impact you, and what are you doing now that you think you might not be doing — if not for his influence?

Please share your story in the comment section below.

I’ll start!

I am a missionary wife today on the field of Sicily, Italy since 1996. God had sown seed in all my childhood years before I accepted Jesus Christ as my Savior October 31, 1982. One of those very significant seeds was Keith's music. When I was a young teenager in the late 70's, we mysteriously recieved one of his record albums in the mail (So You Want To Go Back to Egypt). I always had a very sensitive spot in my heart for Jesus and was in search of true peace since I was a young child. Raised in the hippie culture, my parents were active in seeking world peace, along with all the other aspects of "flower child" living. I would listen to that album over and over and just cry my eyes out. I wanted what he had, a real relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ. During those years I was also arrested in my tracks at a county fair as I listened to a street preacher. I was "high" at the time but remembered how his kind wife took me through scriptures in a small black New Testament. Finally at age 18, I was saved gloriously and had an immediate burden to witness to everyone. I was an active witness on the university campus I attended, especially drawn to the international students. In my early 20's, the Lord spoke to me clearly that I would serve him with my life on a mission field one day. I met and married my husband in 1989, a native Sicililan whom God called to return to him homeland to preach the gospel. We left for the field in l996 with four children and had 4 more born on the field. Our two oldest daughters are now married to missionaries and our oldest son has also been called as a missionary to Sicily. We are in the process of establsihing, by God's grace, a second church on the island. We have an active street preaching ministry in the heart of Palermo.
Our 4th daughter in particular has been deeply moved by Keith's music and she also believes that she will serve full time in missions. I say all this to testify of the fruit that has been borne through the Lord's work in Keith's life.

Back in the seventies, in the earliest days of my experience of being filled with the Spirit, Keith Green was one of the artists I listened to almost daily - for encouragement, strength and direction. And still - when spiritual wars rage - as they do almost daily - I can tap into his music to clear my head and heart of unwanted flesh and demonic voices! I am so thankful for his ministry, and for your ministry of keeping that fresh prophetic anointing alive and available! Blessings!

One of my roomates from college introduced me to Keith's music. I think "Jesus Commands Us to Go" was her favourite song and she posted those words in large letters on our dorm room wall over a map. She and her husband are missionaries in France still today. :-) I play the piano and was captivated by Keith's skill to be sure, but I was more inspired by his honest lyrics. I have a bent toward the prophetic (a gift validated by others along my journey) and have always believed in telling the truth in love. Keith's songs spoke profoundly to this side of me and encouraged me to love Jesus more than the world. God bless you Mel as you continue his ministry. X

Keith Green was the man whose voice rose above the other voices in my spiritual walk when I was about 20 years old. I was raised in the church and was taught solid doctrine yet I always felt something was missing. What Keith said was like water to my thirsty soul. He showed me a living, active relationship with the risen Lord and it put such a desire in me to follow after Jesus with all my heart. I knew I wanted to go wherever He wanted me to go from that day on. I always thought that would be overseas but as it has turned out, my place of service has been right here at home among my family members, friends and neighbors. I have missed Keith's presence on earth but his music and message live on, urging us to "fight the good fight and press on towards the high calling" until that Day comes for each of us as it had already come for Keith. I have admired you, Melody all through the years and have prayed for you. So I am thrilled to have re-connected through FB! God bless you!

After hearing Keith and seeing him in concert in Columbia, SC, I completely surrendered all of my life to Christ. Keith's music and ministry is a treasure in my life, and I thank God for his obedience to the Lord. Thank you Melody for continuing it!

I was working at YWAM Tyler during the time of Keith's ministry. I did ever get to meet him personally, but I do remember Keith singing at AGAPE Force one night and I was blessed by the message of his songs that night.

I still cry every time I hear "There is a Redeemer" - I didn't know of his ministry until after he went home. THOUGH I could have - if I been a better disciple as a teen!
Melody - you are still in our prayers, and may God bless your ministry to grow...

I was in high school when I first heard about Keith Green. It was a Christian high school, but very few off my classmates ever actually talked about Jesus. I was fascinated by his lyrics and by the Last Days Newsletters. He inspired me to get to know Jesus, to take God's Word more seriously, and to explore Worship more deeply. I wore out my "Songs for the Shepherd" album. I used to sing a lot of his songs..and I still carry sections of lyrics in my heart. I think the words that impacted me the most was "You love the light of your TV, you love the world, but your avoiding me"....in fact that entire song still impacts my decisions. I just returned from a short term mission trip to Africa...and on the plane ride I was humming "Jesus Commands us to go". My entire adult life is peppered with encouraging song lyrics. "Your face is all I seek." Oh! Did I mention that I named my daughter "Bethany"?

I grew up listening to him, my parents and grand parents listened to him, and my kids have grown up listening to him. We referred to him by "Keith" and none of us had to question who we were talking about--lol, I remember when he died, I was about 8, I think, and my Nanny came to tell us and she had tears in her eyes. It was like we lost a family member. I guess we kinda had. I truly believe he was a prophet. Maybe I'm wrong on that one, but there's no doubt God inspired his work. There's still nothing like it, and still nobody better!!!
