Still Speaking after 31 Years in Heaven

Share Your Memories of Keith Green

Keith Green FB Share Your Memo
We want to give everyone an opportunity to share their memories of how Jesus used Keith to impact their life.  And gather all the stories in one place for everyone to enjoy.

Keith sure impacted my life.  After Jesus, he was my biggest influence.  Keith modeled giving everything to Jesus, not wanting celebrity, caring for the poor, taking people off the streets, and reaching into prisons.  We did that from the start together.

I would love to know what your story is.  How did Keith impact your life?  Were you at a concert?  Was it through the music?  Are you in ministry?  On the mission field?

How did Keith impact you, and what are you doing now that you think you might not be doing — if not for his influence?

Please share your story in the comment section below.

I’ll start!

My first experience with Brother Keith and his music Ministry, was when I was babysitting for a friend of my mother's. I was all of 15 years old and living in the MD.DC/DC areas. This young friend of my mother's happened to have a copy of For Him that Have Ears To Hear. I put the record on while the baby napped, and I sat and listened to Brother Keith sing. He sang about God's love not only for mankind but for me..ME personally and that his love was so great..he sent his beloved son for my salvation. Well, with each song, each word..I fell deeper and deeper into God's love for me and I asked to be forgiven for my sins, and welcomed Jesus into my heart and life right then and there. Although I had a basic religion upbringing, I now looked at God and Jesus my Savior in a new way. I picked up the bible, with an urgent sense and need..to truly learn God's word. Brother Keith's songs help me to understand the meaning of the scriptures. With each new album Brother Keith would record and release...I learned more and more about my Father in Heaven and his gift of Jesus Christ. I was thirsty for the word of God and boy did I drink! I signed up for the Last Days Ministries Newsletter and read the teachings of both Brother Keith and Sister Melody and devoured each article. Well, years have rolled on by (I am now 51 years old) and my faith, love and devotion to Jesus Christ has NOT wavered...nor has my enjoyment for Brother Keith's music. 2 years ago, my mother gifted me with a CD of more Keith Green music. Even though I have all the albums, I now have a CD set to listen to while driving *smile*. Never have I been more blessed, then the day I was led to my Lord, my God and Savior through Brother Keith's music. I praise God and his holy name for his mercy, grace and infinite love. I look forward to the day I can praise God at the throne in Heaven...our home that awaits us. Thank you Brother Keith for your music. Thank you Jesus for my salvation. I die to myself and live for you!

amen and amen

I loved this man and his ministry and I got to see him in concert one night in Tacoma Washington and that night changed my life forever. When the concert first started this guy comes out on stage and tells us that he wants us to listen to the Lord and that he did not want a party spirit here at all. So while he was playing I felt almost like I was in the presence of angels. Then I felt one tell me to pray that every eye,ear heart to be opened in the name of Jesus. After I prayed that God opened my eyes and I saw big warring angels with huge vases on each entry way and out of it came this liquid gold that I knew instantly was the anointing.
Then as the liquid gold fell it started filling up the auditorium and when it reached the level we were sitting my ears popped and the guy sitting with me nudged me and asked me if my ears just popped.
Then there was a break and when he came back in he started playing the piano almost like it was a weapon. Then again God opened my eyes and I saw this host of angels dancing on the stage and I was wow God so this is what you do behind the scenes. Then Keith started preaching on how we had to know the word of God and be like the Bereans who had to study the bible daily to make sure that what was being said was the real deal. Then when he got done preaching he told us all to be still before the Lord and walk our in silence and to be quiet for at least a half hour and all of us got up and left in silence. I was speechless to say the least the rest of the night.

I was a new Christian when I saw Keith in concert - he was the first christian artist I went to after becoming a christian. I remember it was at a large church. The place was packed and we had to stand in the back. He sang with such passion and love for Christ and he spoke with conviction. I never forgot that experience and I have shared it with others -- It was as if Jesus was right there, speaking through him.

I learned of Keith coming from Miami in the 80's. I was a huge Marvin Gaye fan and I mean huge. My brother was in Graduate School at Dallas Seminary turned me on to Keith's music, also the local bookstore near my school. I became a pioneer of Christian or Holy Hip Hop. I went to school near where his plane went down near Tyler, Tx. I went to Jarvis Christian College in Hawkins. I joined some rappers called 2Live Crew through my cousin Melvin Bratton headed to Denver Broncos. I later was bodyguarding again and working for the courts and got into a domestic matter stopping a gang war in Tulsa. I tell the story in my new book Pullin Chains. I found myself in prison. That's where I found a book about the life of Keith Green, No Compromise. I ate it up and found out so much about him and the ministry. I learned how so many as they did me. The church dissed Keith and I learned alot about Oral Roberts University and I knew the clubs Keith booked out. I learned that Keith also had Marvin Gaye's producer Bill Maxwell,etc... But what I didn't say is around 11th grade in 1984, I had returned to Miami from Dallas with abortion tracks from Melody and last days ministry. I use to give them out to many female friend that were scared to death when abortion was high amongst my peers. Draw Me and He will take care of the rest, I can go on and on.... You may feel you alone but Mel God has got you....Lives have been changed like mine. I am a pastor of The Hip Hop Church of Denver that plays you guys music. I realized how I would stand up to the music industry for my faith and against Gangsta Rap Music. It was how Keith was that I had learned that no compromise stance. He also ticked alot of people off. The devil's a liar. Our ministry has at it's core the heart felt mission for the lost as Jesus and Keith for street people. When you've done all you can do Keith taught me was to stand boldly up for Christ. 305 767 6217 if we can ever be of help call....Draw Me, Draw Me---Lord, you're beautiful your face is all I see. Hey, man Keith is jammin up there in the kingdom's after party for His glory !!!!!---Pastor Miami Mike Pennington-Devine

I heard Keith sing at my college campus. He was the first real christian that I really connected with and I felt like I might even want to know his Jesus. After my husband went to prison in May 1988 I remembered Keith and Last Days Ministries. I wrote the ministry a letter asking for prayer for my children and I. They sent me back a letter of encouragement and a gift. I was able to go to nursing school and eventually I became a Jesus lover in 2003. Now I am a missionary with YWAM (Youth With A Mission) and have done jail and prison ministry with Champions For Life. I am alive today because Keith was faithful and Melody continued the vision. I am so grateful for Keith and Melody. I am grateful to be alive and living for Jesus.

The first time we heard of Keith Green was probably one of the first road trips to Oregon. We lived in Ashland with our large adoptive family and a free Christian concert was something NOT to miss. He was very late arriving because of bad weather but we were certainly not disappointed. God showed up big time in the Old Varsity Theater that night. The music was captivating , compelling and convicting all at the same time. Anytime Keith and Melody were in the area we and our crew would attend. Keith tried to give us free albulms but my pride insisted opn paying full price, though we really didn't have the money to spend. I know that hurt Keith, I could see it in his eyes!
We were on our own adventure with Jesus, very young and undiscipled, but Keith invited us to join him and Melody in California to be a part of what God was doing through them. What an invitation! Yet, we knew in our hearts that our precious Lord was not finished building our family and that more were coming to Oregon so we had to stay.
Over the years, the music and the message of both Keith and Melody Green have centered us through good and hard times. We disciple others now, as pastors and teachers, as the Lord has graciously "homeschooled" us. When our hearts are hungry and thirsty for Jesus, we continue to listen to the music and are washed and filled again. Thank you, Lord, for the Greens!

While working in a Christian bookstore, I picked out an 8-track cassette and heard "Your Love Broke Through" for the first time. That was in 1977 and still today, The Lord shines His light upon me when I play it on my IPad. Praise be to God for the gift of Keith's music and may The Lord continue to bless the mission beng carried on by his wife.

I first heard Keith's music when I was 13, and I loved it right off. I started buying his albums, and I later signed up for the Last Days newsletter/magazine. I looked forward to it each month, and the music & articles had a profound influence in my life. I will never forget when the news came about the plane crash, and I cried when I heard he was dead (along with his two children). I was 16 at the time of his death, but I knew that one day I would meet him in Heaven.

I still pray for Melody & her family every day, and I will always remember the wonderful work of Keith Green and his music.

I had been a Christian for about a year in 1981, when I saw Keith Green in concert while visiting a rescue mission in Illinois with a group of young people. On the way home, reading through some chapters in Isaiah and thinking over the things the Lord had been speaking to me over the weekend, I wrote this song called "Israel":

Come now, let us reason together, says the Lord
Tell me, what has happened to the bride that I adored?
Once I was your first love and we walked in harmony
Now I hear your praises, but your hearts are far from Me
Now I hear your praises, but your hearts are far from Me
How it breaks My heart to see the things you say and do
I hardly recognize you, child
You got the world all over you

I chose you for Myself, My bride, before the worlds were made
And you’ve seen many blessings and great miracles displayed
But how is it you’ve turned away to play your harlot game?
I’ll take away your finery and make you sit in shame
I’ll take away your finery and make you sit in shame
I didn’t put you here to imitate the things they do
I hardly recognize you, child
You got the world all over you

Israel, oh Israel, beloved sons and daughters
Must you always compromise and mix your wine with water
How I long to gather you underneath My wing
Teach you of My holiness and make you clean again
Give you back your purity
And wash your feet again

In 1977, I was at a Jesus event in Pennsylvania where Keith played and spoke in a field muddy from recent rain. After singing for a while, he said - as he played in his repid style - "You know what you have to give up to follow Jesus? Everything." Silence. "Do you know what you get when you follow Jesus? Everything?" Huge applause, then silence, followed by "Do you know what you just did? DO YOU KNOW WHAT YOU JUST DID? You clapped for getting?" From then he made a very convicting message on what it meant to follow Jesus. At the end of it, everybody was kneeling in the mud in repentence.

Keith meant a lot to me, my wife and our friends in our little church in Lewisburg, Pa. He still means a lot now. I can't wait to sing with him in glory.
