Still Speaking after 31 Years in Heaven

Share Your Memories of Keith Green

Keith Green FB Share Your Memo
We want to give everyone an opportunity to share their memories of how Jesus used Keith to impact their life.  And gather all the stories in one place for everyone to enjoy.

Keith sure impacted my life.  After Jesus, he was my biggest influence.  Keith modeled giving everything to Jesus, not wanting celebrity, caring for the poor, taking people off the streets, and reaching into prisons.  We did that from the start together.

I would love to know what your story is.  How did Keith impact your life?  Were you at a concert?  Was it through the music?  Are you in ministry?  On the mission field?

How did Keith impact you, and what are you doing now that you think you might not be doing — if not for his influence?

Please share your story in the comment section below.
I’ll start!

Hi Melody! I'm Josiah, I'm 15 years old. Keith is an inspiration in my life. I'm named after your son and I listen to Keith all the time. I went to the Josiah and Bethany Children's House this Easter. It changed my life! I publicly shared my testimony for the first time while in Mexico! I want to be a missionary pilot! Thank you for keeping his legacy alive and doing God's work in the things you do!

I fell to my knees and wept when the radio announced the plane crash. As a new Christian still in the height of 'first love' I was absorbing all I could to grow my faith. I faithfully read every word of the Last Days newsletter acticles by both Keith and Melody. I felt the lose greatly and my heart broke for Melody. I went to the Trenton War Memorial in NJ for the Keith Green Memorial concert. By chance Melody and I meet in the ladies room just before the show. We exchanged a smile and a nod each noticing the other's pregnant belly. I didn't know it was her. She wore red lipstick :) and was more dressed up than I would have expected her to be. That night she spoke about Keith and his message "Jesus commands us to go." And I knew that the misintry that God had planted in this couple had only just begun. ( note: I named my baby Melody!)

The first time Keith's music impacted was in 1979. it was right after I had been married. my husband fell away from the Lord and he took me with him. one night at church our friend sang the song "i don't want to fall away from you." i realized I had my own relationship with God and He still loved me. then, i was going through a really tough time in my life. I was depressed and was experiencing a dark time spiritually. I went to Keith's concert when he sang the song my eyes are dry my heart is cold. Something broke inside my spirit and I realized that is where I was at spiritually and I didn't want to be there. God changed my life that night through Keith's music. No compromise has been the theme song throughout my life.

After I was born again in 1991 I went to work as a street evangelist in Tel Aviv Israel. Keith's music encouraged me to reach the lost with the Good News. Asleep in the Light & When I hear the Praises Start are really touching songs that I'll always love. Now 22 years later my family and I are missionaries to the Jewish people in Budapest Hungary, and I still listen to Keith's music. As Keith said, "this generation of believers is responsible for this generation of souls" We need to give everything to reach the lost! Life on the mission field can be difficult, with lack of support, and trying to live by what little money you have.. BUT "we are the Lord's hands and feet" Be blessed :)

Kingdome (Seattle), 1980-something. The jam packed concert. I still have the mini poster. I remember just 'rockin' out with Keith' and everyone was just having a great time and into the music, and then.... he started 'preachin'. You could have heard a PIN DROP in that ginormous place! He captivated entire audiences... but on a very individual level- person by person/soul by soul. He spoke to me. He helped me GROW. 'If you can't come to me every day... then don't bother coming at all'. Convicting. "asleep in the light' - just one of the songs that encouraged me to reach out and love others as Jesus would. "Jesus rose from the grave and you can't even get out of bed". I became a Young LIfe leader with Keiths inlfuence... and have been involved in that ministry through my entire life... hundreds of souls later. God bless you Melody! Wow- can't wait for a reunion with him in heaven one day... singing it out. Thanks for all you do to help us remember how he truly changed us. Darci

I suppose that Keith was the first "worship leader" I had ever known. His music was so was almost like he knew he had limited time to do his part to expand the kingdom. I believe Rich Mullins' music and message was intense and powerful in the same way and for the same reason. I will never forget the day he and his sweet children went home...our daughter was celebrating her 2nd birthday and we were on our way to my sister-in-law's wedding. I don't suppose there has been a year since that I have not thought of Keith and his family and the huge impact his ministry has had on my own life!

I was so blessed to have been around Keith a number of times and got all of the last days ministries newsletters, records, tapes and even was in the process of joining the ministry when Keith died. I was so blessed by God working thru Keith by speaking words of wisdom to me. He was the one that gave me the strength to disciple a new girlfriend of my ex-boyfriend because her soul was more important than my feelings of being the ex-girlfriend. We became good friends and witnessed to many people together. I still to this day listen to his music and share it with my 11 yr old daughter, Kyla Nicole......(Kyla means lovely in Irish and Nicole means victory in the Lord in Hebrew......) I had her at 42 and the dr said medically I should not have been able to have her, let alone driving a Big Truck until I was 35 weeks along! She is very strong, beautiful, Christian girl. I will always remember the blessings of Keith! Gone, but not forgotten!

Keith Green days.. when my faith was new, my friends in Christ were new.. and some became family over the years. Keith Green years were the innocent years before I knew that trials would still come, tests would happen and some I would fail at. Miserably. Keith Green's music has that special ability to take me back before things got messy and muddy. Then you realize Jesus was carrying you through.. all the mud. Yes there is a time in the start of my walk with Christ that are literally called the Keith Green days. Many times I sing his songs in my head and it brightens me and lightens my load. I have to say, I love the broken road I have walked, because I have never ever been alone. I have been lonely at times, but never alone. Although we have not walked side by side all these years, I look at some of my friends and feel blessed that they were part of the journey, no matter how great or small. Keith Green just feels like being home again. Going to church doesn't make you a Christian anymore than going to McD's makes you a hamburger. About sums it up.:)

I met Jesus in May of 1978. Heard "Your Love Broke Through" at a friend's house and had to find out who it was. I could relate to so many of Keith's songs and also to yours Melody. They all seemed to be the same things that I was feeling at the time in my relationship with Jesus. I believe the thing that inspired me the most about Keith is the reality of his love for Jesus. He didn't need to tell you how much he loved Him. It was just so evident in his life. If there was any love for this world (this life)it wasn't evident. When he sang I can't wait to get to heaven, I believe he really meant it. I wanted to go to a concert but just never made it. My favorite songs are When I hear the Praises Start, Draw Me, Grace By Which I Stand, and There is A Redeemer.

As a Christian piano player, I was just really inspired by Keith's music, with his playing and singing, because his songs show that he sang deeply from his heart. My heart would feel impacted while hearing one of his songs. His songs are so very uplifting, and though Keith left to be in the presence of our Lord, his music goes on, as we lift out voices and praises in his songs to God.
