Still Speaking after 31 Years in Heaven

Share Your Memories of Keith Green

Keith Green FB Share Your Memo
We want to give everyone an opportunity to share their memories of how Jesus used Keith to impact their life.  And gather all the stories in one place for everyone to enjoy.

Keith sure impacted my life.  After Jesus, he was my biggest influence.  Keith modeled giving everything to Jesus, not wanting celebrity, caring for the poor, taking people off the streets, and reaching into prisons.  We did that from the start together.

I would love to know what your story is.  How did Keith impact your life?  Were you at a concert?  Was it through the music?  Are you in ministry?  On the mission field?

How did Keith impact you, and what are you doing now that you think you might not be doing — if not for his influence?

Please share your story in the comment section below.
I’ll start!

Both Steve and Keith [Green] have profoundly affected me. in 1995, had wedding songs put into my wedding video as background music. one song was 'not so good'it took me years to realize that song 'LOVE WITH ME THEN'[MELODY'S SONG]was a keith green song. i have come to love it now.first heard Keith's music 1985 when i came to MESSIAH in Hawaii. no one's legacy of music for christ has touched me more!

As a twenty some year old, my wife and I had just come out of cult and was looking for God. I was graciously intorduced to Keith and his messages through music and the spoken words. I was blessed beyond words, it was real, this is the way it suppose to be. I took that message to various denominations and met little resistance, mostly tears of shame and joy. Even today at 63 when I need a lift, I put on one of his CD's I have to be blessed taken to a proper place before God. Thanks Heavenly Father, Keith and Melody for the sacrifice of your loss for Keith and the children.

I am also a Christian musician, and had long struggled with the same questions of "charging for ministry", and "self promotion" and it was wonderful to have those feelings echoed in the heart of another Christian. We get so caught up in looking after ourselves, that we lose the beautiful opportunity to see our heavenly father care for us while we are about HIS work and HIS will on earth.I heard Billy Graham say once: "When Godly men stand up for truth, the spines of weak men are strengthened" and that statement couldn't be more true! I am so grateful for Keith's teaching "Devotions or devotion". I have watched it so many times I've lost count, and it decimates me every time! And finally... I thought I'd mention my favourite song: "Asleep in the light"! A lump forms in my throat every time I hear it and sing along... Oh LORD! Let that desperate cry settle deep within our hearts!!!! (PS: I chose the 'bouncy' happy face icon as a reflection of Keith's energy and zeal!)

My wife and I listened to Keith's music and used to read "Last Days News". This was during our early years of marriage when we were both in our early twenties. Keith was taken much too soon. We have to believe though that God in His infinite wisdom had a reason to bring Keith home. My wife and I love all his music and I still find myself laughing when I hear: "So You Want to Go Back to Egypt".

May God continue to bless you Melody.

"He's brought me here, where things are clear and trials turn to gold. He shared with me, His victory He won in days of old.

Oh Lord, I don't deserve the riches of your word but You've changed my filthy rags
to linen white as snow."

I heard those words from Keith and Melody Green during a concert at Calvary Chapel in Costa Mesa California the summer I died. As a teenager my life was one of abuse and neglect and I was done with it! Oddly, the very night I had planned and almost executed my suicide was the very night two high school friends came and sat in my living room, refusing to leave until I went with them to "a concert." I believed then as I do now forty plus years later, God used these friends and Keith's music to draw me to Him. I remember sitting in the concert...the words penetrating my heart and soul like it was just yesterday. My eyes still well up with the emotions that spilled out that night. I have to admit that I didn't go down at the alter call but should have as I was being pulled. I'm a strong willed person and He is still working on that but I did toss the pills and the note to my parents when I got home. I spent that night on my knees dying to me and giving my all to live for Jesus because a man and his wife chose to share their heart and love for Jesus that night. I have four children and grandchildren now that would not have been here if I had succeeded in my plans. One son is following in the path of worship music after his very hard road as well.

I was at my office on July 28, 1982 when the news announced the plane first I was stunned like most who knew Keith and Melody through the music and ministry but then realized that heaven has a new voice to worship at His feet. Keep singing Keith, there are many to join you someday because you chose to worship and obey!

I was exposed to the music of Keith Green when I was 16 years old by a friend who was 21 at the time. Christianity h seemed so strict to me and my parents faith has been somewhat of a turnoff to to me , but my friend exposed me to his music and it really soften my heart I love his lyrics and it turned me closer to God. I recall his lyrics being so touching that I could feel God and it made me want to cry sometimes. When I heard of his untimely death I was very sad but happy for him to be with the Lord. But he was gone from us far too soon. His legacy lives on through his music and his family and I still listen to his music to this day and he made an impact on me that I shall never forget.

I met Jesus in 1984 and as a new believer was given a tape of Keith's music. listening to it now always brings me back to my days of first love with The Lord. I've always said that Keith discipled me :) I am so thankful for the many hours spent crying and communing with The Lord as the words from Keith's song broke my heart wide open to Him. One of my fondest memories is sitting in the back of a friend's pick up truck driving down the highway singing "Rushing Wind" at the top of my lungs, feeling The Lord making that a reality in my life. Today I am still in love with Jesus, still singing "Lord You're Beautiful" and teaching my kids to love Keith's music and The Lord he was so passionate about. What a gift he is to the body of Christ. Sending love to you Melanie! Thank you for sharing your heart and your life with us

I first heard Keith when his album, "No Compromise" was released...his music went right through me and convicted me to follow Jesus with all I had...but unfortunately, due to my selfishness and other situations, I turned away from the Lord for many years. One day, while riding in my car, I was listening to the radio and was dialing through the stations and I came upon a station that was playing, "Grace By Which I Stand" by Keith. The Holy Spirit used that song to convict me and I could not continue driving any longer, I pulled over to the side of the road and begin to cry, and cry hard. I repented of my sins, and made a vow to the Lord to return to Him and never leave again. That was 28 years ago. I am not a pastor, and the other day on our way home from church, my wife told me that she knew that the sermon that day was going to be powerful. "How did you know that?" I asked. She replied, "You were listening to Keith Green music on the way to the church. Whenever you do that, your message is filled with passion." Thank you Keith. I look forward to meeting you soon.

The first and only time I saw Keith was at Houghton College in the Fall of 1979. I had never heard of him. He came on stage, greeted us warmly, commented about the often ostentatious displays in churches, then comically considered the grandiose pipe organ in the background onstage, at which we all chuckled. He was a one-man show and did a great job - just him and the piano. He then announced his intention to give albums away free to anyone who wanted one, if they were truly unable to pay. I really enjoyed the songs and worship time with him, as did everyone else there. My friend's mom bought an album and I was hooked from there. (Guest) 07/26/2013 09:04
I was born again October 24, 1979 through the witness of a work friend, Ron, who married me three weeks later. When he saw the change the Lord did in me he knew I was worth keeping. (He too was saved in 1979.) Soon after I discovered Christian radio and Christian music. I absolutely fell in love with Keith's music as did Ron. We bought his records and received the Last Days Newsletters. We had a daughter, Sarah, one year later so she grew up hearing Keith's music and loves it to this day. She is a mother with 3 children now.
Ron and I went to visit your ministry soon after Keith and the children went to be with the Lord. I remember looking around in a building and seeing you sitting on a bench or chair looking so sad. I didn't know what to say to you so, sadly, I didn't say anything. If I could go back I would have hugged you. In 1999 I lost my 30 year old son to a car accident. Now I understand.
Sending my love, blessings and a great big ((((HUG)))) - long over due.
