Still Speaking after 31 Years in Heaven

Share Your Memories of Keith Green

Keith Green FB Share Your Memo
We want to give everyone an opportunity to share their memories of how Jesus used Keith to impact their life.  And gather all the stories in one place for everyone to enjoy.

Keith sure impacted my life.  After Jesus, he was my biggest influence.  Keith modeled giving everything to Jesus, not wanting celebrity, caring for the poor, taking people off the streets, and reaching into prisons.  We did that from the start together.

I would love to know what your story is.  How did Keith impact your life?  Were you at a concert?  Was it through the music?  Are you in ministry?  On the mission field?

How did Keith impact you, and what are you doing now that you think you might not be doing — if not for his influence?

Please share your story in the comment section below.

I’ll start!

I;ll never forget, I had been somewhat involved in the old FCCM and had heard many stories, especially the debate around a pinball machine about the business and ministry side of the Christian Music business. I never met Keith but a year or so later I was back in college in Hillsboro Kansas, a miracle in and of itself. I was carrying out groceries at a small grocery store when someone tole me about the crash. I was heartbroken. It was a month or so later that my wife and I visited the memorial service that was held in Wichita Kansas. To this day I still listen to Keiths music, a ministry I started was called No Comprise Ministries and we were among the first to promote concerts in Kansas, I have since gone on to work with numerous bands, many Christian, written a book and had a short movie made about me, I still hate to sign autographs but when I do it is always accompanied by Matthew 25: 31-46 a passage and concept I come to love and appreciate that was inspired and taught to me in many ways by Keith Green. Over the years one of the fellows who lived in community with Keith and Melody, Bill Teller edited my book for me, we have our own connections in many ways that are a real God send. That all said, there is no doubt that Keith Green was one of the 2 or 3 Christians that God used to inspire me in the ministry I do now, via www.mosaicwichita.com, www.thekeystonekid.com and www.thevirtualpew.com. I can't imagine my life without the impact of ministry from such artists as Keith Green, enough so in fact, that I still recall until this day, where I was and what I was doing when I heard of his death. God is still using him though, despite his ongoing and continued worship of the King of Kings in the glories of Heaven.

After I got thunderously saved in the summer of 1979 I quickly discovered Christian music, and in particular, Keith's music. He was as alive as I was so we had an affinity; his words and melodies were like apples of gold in settings of silver: they were articulated perfectly. My soul would soar, and still does when I listen to his anointed and prophetic music. My favorite lines of his are from "I want to be more like Jesus;" they are: "The end of all my prayers, is to care like my Lord cares; my one and only goal, His image in my soul." WOW!!! I can't imagine it being said any better, and to have had the musical ability to also articulate in through music makes it extraordinary and indelible. I cannot imagine who I'd be today or where I'd be today in Christ if it were not for Keith Green.

My first exposure to Keith was at Jesus 77. I was kind of a rogue teenager of 17 at the time and was really in need of something to impress the Lord's love in my heart. I have now been a pastor for the last 29 years and recently purchased some of Keith's CDs (I used to have all his stuff on lps). Listening to his music now I can still feel that same powerful anointing it takes me to an intimate place with my Lord for which I am very grateful!

I had never heard of Keith Green until a few years ago when my friend lent me her WOW worship CD and told me that her favorite song from there was Keith's "Oh Lord You're Beautiful". I listened to the song, loved it and wanted to know more about the singer. Wow, was I shocked when I found out Keith had been dead for almost 30 years already!!!! That led me to read all about his life, buy his CD's, his book. Keith's zeal for Jesus really opened my eyes to the many different types of people God works through. It's amazing! Looking forward to meeting Keith!!!

Keith Green is my favorite Christian Artist. When I'm going through difficult times I turn Keith's music on and I'm so encouraged. While listening to Keith's music I realize how much I'm loved by JESUS and also that it's not about me only but about others.

I can also hear how much Keith enjoyed his fellowship with Christ. I'm so inspired by his music. I believe I have all of Keith's music. I love listening to "Asleep In the Night, Create In Me A Clean Heart, I want Be Like Jesus. By Grace Which I Stand, I don't Want To Fall Away, oh so many of his songs minister to me daily.

I've been listening to Keith Green's songs since 1981 at the age of 18 when I gave my life to Christ. My children are now grown and they listen to his songs as well. I thank and praise GOD for you as well Melody. May GOD continue to strengthen you in fulfilling your purpose here on earth.

I got saved in October 1980, two weeks from my 18th birthday. One of my new Christian friends gave me a cassette copy of Keith's albums "So You Wanna Go Back to Egypt" and "For Him Who Has Ears to Hear." This was my first Christian tape that I owned and it was a huge encouragement for me as a new Christian, and continues to be 30+ years later.

I found Keith Green's music in 1979 when I started listening to Christian music. I was struck by the power of his music and the genuine love he has for Jesus. I, to this day, want that genuine love and power to come out of my mouth. I still listen to his music everyday because it reminds me of how much it takes to truly walk with Jesus and have a love for each and every soul I come in contact with. I can feel his heart for the longing in his soul to see Jesus face to face and that is why I think Jesus said, okay Keith, you can come home now.....I long for that day in my life when Jesus says "Well done, my good and faithful servant." Until we meet-God bless you.

Well I could say many things but I'll keep this as short as possible. After many years of playing secular music there came a void in all the music I was doing. The Lord was and had always been working on me in the music I was attemping to write. Everything I wrote had a God meaning even with the drugs and drinking I was doing. I then heard Keith Greens Asleep in the Light and I said I want to write music like that. Since then everything I write is a song that I pray God blesses and helps anyone to find their own to Jesus or helps with any situation that is affecting them. I was lost and searched to find my place in this world and when it all come down the answer was right in front of me the whole time. The answer: Simply Jesus!!

It was 1981. I was looking for an item to include in a letter I was writing. Suddenly over a loudspeaker, Keith said "Betty, I need you to come right away!" It sounded urgent so I raced upstairs. Keith was by my computer and "confessed" -- "I was reading what you wrote and I accidentally deleted it!" I told him I could have waited to get that message before running back and we both laughed.
