Still Speaking after 31 Years in Heaven

Share Your Memories of Keith Green

Keith Green FB Share Your Memo
We want to give everyone an opportunity to share their memories of how Jesus used Keith to impact their life.  And gather all the stories in one place for everyone to enjoy.

Keith sure impacted my life.  After Jesus, he was my biggest influence.  Keith modeled giving everything to Jesus, not wanting celebrity, caring for the poor, taking people off the streets, and reaching into prisons.  We did that from the start together.

I would love to know what your story is.  How did Keith impact your life?  Were you at a concert?  Was it through the music?  Are you in ministry?  On the mission field?

How did Keith impact you, and what are you doing now that you think you might not be doing — if not for his influence?

Please share your story in the comment section below.
I’ll start!

I LOVE how Keith possessed the rare virtue of being crazy teachable and always willing to repent to God and man. I remember my first year at Last Days, Keith would tell me he wanted to meet with me and then would begin the meeting by saying, "Francine, I want you to speak into my life." He insisted too! (No way out w/Keith) ;) When's the last time someone asked you to speak into their life? I haven't asked anyone recently either. I saw him go the very humble road of making things right with many even if he wasn't necessarily "wrong". Rare virtue! Needed virtue in us all!

Hi, I was Born Again on Oct 28 1991 and Jesus turned my life inside out and upside down. Within six months of my conversion I had read the bible cover to cover twice closing in on three times. I had also joined a street ministry team called "Street Level Ministries". The Pastors wife, (Allison) was the first to tell me about Keith, I have read No Compromise at least 20 times since 1992 probably more, I try to read it annually. Of all his albums I enjoy "The Ministry Years" volume one and two the best. I am in Music Ministry, and an Ordained Minister/Singer Songwriter, in conversation with the people the Lord sends to me I almost always bring up the fact that one of my greatest Mentor's next to Jesus is Keith Green. I remember my early years with the street ministry team their was a French girl on the team named Muriel, She used to call me "Keith Green" because of how strong and bold I was when preaching the Gospel. Thinking back, that makes me very proud the way she saw that in me, and my convictions will never change. Reading some of Keith's old sermons or teachings brought me through some very hard times as a young student of the Word, or even listening to songs like "Your love broke through" or "Pledge my head to heaven" or lets not forget "Lord You're beautiful". Knowing Keith through his legacy has made me the strong Christian that I am today. Thank you Melody for letting all of us who love you and Keith comment on this site. God bless you and remember, "Jesus is Lord" Rev. Kevin

Back in 1978 I was 18, lost, and a disciple of the secular music world. In that same year I discovered the music of Bob Dylan and Joni Mitchell. 3 years later God used Bob's "Slow Train Comin'" to draw me to Him, and then to experience a true transformation and born again experience. As a songwriter myself, I found a young women in Joni Mitchell I really related artist, a writer, a women spurred in love. In the late 80's I read in "No Compromise" that Keith had briefly met Joni Mitchell. I was blown away by that. But in 1981 when I made Jesus the Lord of my life, the pedestal I had placed Mitchell on crumbled to fall to the feet of Jesus. He was now my King. I will never forget the day that I was listening to KSBJ, a Christian radio station here in Houston, TX, and the D.J. made the announcement of the death of Keith and all those onboard his plane. My heart felt like it fell out of my body. It would be safe to say that the Christian Community was rocked hard by this tragedy. We were devastated. I had been very blessed by Keith's music, and loved that he was unafraid to speak the truth and live for Jesus. He was one of a kind and I so appreciated him. I have shared with my College age daughters, some of his songs because they represent my moorings as a born again child of God. Even today, your writings Melody, your way of thinking...I find such comfort and agreement in, in a world of so many different ministries. I had two friends that joined YWAM right after the plane crash and served through the organization and I too prayed about attending the LDM school. The Lord did not lead me in that direction, but similar to what Pastor Michele said, I related to Keith's sold out heart for Jesus. It wasn't/isn't about playing church, it's about saving the lost, serving, making disciples, and ministering to the body of Christ. I have thought of you and prayed for you often Melody, having lost not only your husband and soulmate but your two young children. I trust our loving and gracious God has given you His supernatural grace all these years. Can't wait to meet you and Keith one day in the celestial courts of heaven. God Bless!

As a young adult raised Ina very traditional church, I was searching for a more personal relationship with Christ and Keith's music helped to draw me closer to him. He was my very favorite contemporary Chritian artist. I have recently started listening to his music again. Keith was truly a main of God.

I love that he "got it" about the Catholics, and knew that they will never hear the Gospel from their priests. (If only our pastors today would say so!)

I was a stunned tween when I heard of Keith's homegoing...even then I knew he was a unique soul who embraced a 'truer' Christianity than most I observed. Today when I sense the strong hand of the Holy Spirit stirring my heart, Keith's music is what I use to express my surrender and response. His work lives on in my desire to 'Make my life a prayer'...

Dear Melody, I was raised in christian home, but I got into drugs and acohol in seventies.I made some choices thar weren't good and I many bad stuff happen to me because of them! But when I got pregnant with my son,I decided I need to make a change. I wasn't married at the time, the father wanted nothing to with me and our child. I vist a church I was invited to,I rededicated my life to the Lord. I had my son and my journey began,I was a sponge and I soak everything in all I could to learn more.My cousins were visting my family and from california, my cousin gave me piece a paper with Keith picture on it. She told she saw him in concert and I might to like him to. I order my first album,so you wanna go back to egypt. I play over and over again,I used to get the newsletter too. I met a wonderful christian man and we have a wonderful family. We went to Don Francisco concert thiry years this sunday, I heard earlier that day of Keith and the children home going. We also went to memorial concert about and saw you there. I felt, I wanted to go on the mission trip, but husband didn't want to. So I just pray about it, we started to raised our family. Then we got chance to go to Haiti and we went and change our lives! God is Good and faithful! And through the years, I listen to Your music. But my son went away from God and me. But again God blessed again,my son came back to Him and me three years ago. He got invold with YWAM and got training and now serving God. He is engaged to young lady Nicaruga and he is going couple weeks to bring home here in Minnesota. Please pray if when work for to come here,we are so forward in meeting her! So melody, your music and your teachings have meant so much to me. At the Bronco Bowl in the Oak Cliff part Dallas on a Saturday night somewhere at the end of the 70's. Never had I seen someone so "casual" in their appearance at a "Church" event, yet there was something different about him. This man spoke with authority, knowledge and understanding of our living God who seeks to have a living relationship with us. At particular concert, Keith preaching and I mean preaching on soul winning and evangelism. He said something like this, "People are dying and going to Hell and YOU DON'T give a DAMN. You are more concerned about my saying "Damn" ...." What boldness!! I loved Keith instantly. He was out of the box and off the hook. His words, songs and messages are still alive in my spirit today.
