Still Speaking after 31 Years in Heaven

Share Your Memories of Keith Green

Keith Green FB Share Your Memo
We want to give everyone an opportunity to share their memories of how Jesus used Keith to impact their life.  And gather all the stories in one place for everyone to enjoy.

Keith sure impacted my life.  After Jesus, he was my biggest influence.  Keith modeled giving everything to Jesus, not wanting celebrity, caring for the poor, taking people off the streets, and reaching into prisons.  We did that from the start together.

I would love to know what your story is.  How did Keith impact your life?  Were you at a concert?  Was it through the music?  Are you in ministry?  On the mission field?

How did Keith impact you, and what are you doing now that you think you might not be doing — if not for his influence?

Please share your story in the comment section below.
I’ll start!

As a christian teenager I was introduced to Keith's music just before he went 'home'. His ministry has always been part of my life since, not only as a reminder of God's love for us but as a way to pull myself back to God in times of stress and pain. The music and his teachings along with Melody's book are an integral part of my life to this day and as I get older and wiser I continue to learn and understand more of this ministry. The music and words are as clear and important now as they have been for the last 4 decades. Thank you to Keith and Melody for sharing open lives with us all.

I'm a Bolivian missionary serving in YWAM Paraguay(quite a rare thing a Bolivian Missionary). The fact is that Keiths life was one of my strong inspirations to be radical in my faith with Jesus and later in His service. I received the tracts collection of LDM and certainly were in a sense my teachers in my discipleship process. Hearing Keiths music always has been a soul encourager in difficult times. In my case, a lot of times I had to translate to Spanish for some people the lyrics of "The Prodigal Son" for example, and even of the Language barrier I could see the Holy Spirit ministering to people touching their hearts. GBY Melody and all your family and team working there.

Amongst all these wonderful messages is just a tiny one from me, Mel. We've talked about my memories but I think the one about being put on "hold" at Focus was the best. So I'll share that here again for all the others that might read this post.

I was one of the first women to ever publicly admit to choosing to abort my first. God had been clear that I was to share my name so women could respond to me directly. I was on staff at Focus on the Family then and heading up their Crisis Pregnancy Ministries. The show had been long taped and sent out to the studios.

An estimated 10 million Focus on the Family listeners on a the next Thursday and Friday. By Wednesday I was a total basket-case. My thoughts were running in circles saying, “You were CRAZY to let them use your name! The whole world will know you’ve had an abortion. You’ll be marked for life.”

I couldn’t settle down but had to make an attempt. So I concentrated on my work duties. I placed a call to Sparrow records looking for permission to use a song in an upcoming Focus radio advertisement for their teen magazine series.

Before my abortion, I had been a fan of Keith's. I had nearly every record and knew most of his songs by heart. After the abortion, I couldn’t bear to listen to his music because they were so convicting. Guess whose music was playing on Sparrow’s hold system. You got it right... Not only was it Keith but it was one of my favorite songs, “Asleep in the Light,” that I hadn’t heard in ten years. I came in at the exact point where he sang,

“Don’t you see, don’t you see, all the people sinking down? Don’t you care, don’t you care, are you going to let them drown? God’s calling and you’re the one but like Jonah you run. He told you to speak but you keep holding it in. Oh, can’t you see, it’s such sin.”

I was instantly humbled and began to cry. The gentleman I was calling broke into the song. I begged him to put me back on hold. I later relayed the entire story to him. Within a few days, he sent me the entire collection of Keith’s music! It has been a balm to my heart on many occasions.

God clearly wanted me to speak publicly. Its' been an adventure ever since that had led to my current work today with Ramah International ( Because of that first public broadcast, God has used me speak to tens of thousands of women who have made this choice, offering them the hope of His healing. God told to me to speak, and used Keith's specific message that day to confirm that leading. When I've felt weak again, I remind myself of that specific "on-hold" experience and know that God is with me.

It was a delight to finally meet you, Melody, in 2006 when you came to speak at our conference in Kansas City. It's a delight to know you personally. I have more stories but don't want to take up all the space. Be blessed, sweet sister.

In everything that you do, Let the Lord be magnified (Psalm 35:27b).

One day I was looking through the record section in a Christian Bookstore. I found a record by Keith and was reading the album cover. I noticed a note on the album that said, "If you can't afford the price of this album, write us and we will send you one for whatever you can afford." I'm not sure of the exact wording but that' pretty close. That had a tremendous impact on me. Keith was sold out to Christ like nobody else I've ever known. He music pierced my heart over and over again. I miss him very much. He was a big influence in my Christian walk.

I was in high school when Keith really ministered to me. I was searching for what God would have me do with my life. The song: "No Compromise" the whole No Compromise album spoke to my heart for that was my heart's cry. I stayed close to the Lord and sought after him and it was Keith's music that kept me strong in my walk. The challenge of his music and the words of his songs were powerful and still are. My heart was and is much like Keith's. I always desired to go to see the ministry of Keith Green in Lindale, TX. I would get information in the mail but didn't know how I could ever go see it. I lived in Indiana. What do you know after college God called me to be a pregnancy resource center director and I was hired to work with pregnancy centers in Texas and met Bev Kline who directs Living Alternatives in Lindale. When I went to see her she let me know the grounds are where Keith Green Ministries were. God answered my prayer!! I got to see where the ministry was and see that it is being used for saving lives. How amazing is our God!! I follow Melody and pray for her. Thank you for allowing me to share and thank you for sharing Keith and his music and ministry. To God be the Glory!!

I have been listening to Keith, from his very first album in 1977. I grew up in S.CA. just 35 miles east of L.A. I received your Last Days Newsletters, and in 1977, I was 22. I got to go to 2 of Keith's concerts, at the L.A. forum. One was in 1980, and the other, was right after you and Keith had just gotten back from Greece, where you visited the M.V. Anastasis Mercy Ship. The night of Keith's concert, you both talked about your time on the ship and Keith shared about the importance of obeying God's call on our lives to go to the mission field. He told us to rise to our feet, if we felt we wanted to do more for God with our lives, than what we had been. God spoke to me, as I stood up, and said,"You, Joy, I want you to go"! I was so excited about that Ship Ministry, and my heart was beating so fast, from knowing that is where God wanted me to go..I had a dream that night, after his concert, of what the ship looked like inside. I was working full time, at a hospital, and had my own little apartment. I kept saving all through 1982, and started selling my stuff, immediately.I was so looking forward to the ship coming to L.A. for the first time, in Aug.1982. I was at work, on July 28th, 1982, when I heard the news of Keith's crash!I went in a bathroom and cried my eye's out. I was on the pier that day, just 2 weeks after Keith went to be with Jesus, while Keith was singing,"Holy,Holy Holy",on the pier's intercomb. Everybody was weeping. Your strength from God, that day was unbelievable. After a D.T.S. and S.O.E. with YWAM, in 1983, I got to finally join the crew of the M.V. Anastasis, on Aug.29th, 1984. I met my Kiwi husband on board, and we got married on the ship, Feb.16th,1985.Lived on the ship for 5 years. Our first-born son, Timothy, was 11 months old, when we left the ship,to return to YWAM, in Arkansas. We have lived the last 20 years in New Zealand. My husband, Robbie, went to be with the LORD on May 29th, 2011.He was only 58. Keith had a part in completely changing my whole life, and I THANK GOD, everyday, for the 26 years, I got to have with Robbie.I look forward to seeing Robbie, again and meeting Keith, also,in heaven, one day, so I can thank him, too!! GOD BLESS YOU, Melody

I was a new Christian,in 1981, when a new sister in Christ introduced me to Keith's music. What a blessing it wss for me! His words were part of my transformation as I grew in Christ. I remember doing housework and dancing around praising Jesus, sometimes with tears streaming down my face. I still listen to Keith, and Melody, today, and even try to play the songs myself...still bringing tears to my eyes. Thank you for all you have done and are still doing in lives today! Love you and praying for you.

I was first exposed to Keith back in the fall of 1982. I had gotten saved in june of 82 and was then convicted about the music I owned, which was a lot of heavy metal. I had about 3 months of no music in my life. When I heard Keith's music I immediatly loved it. as I started listening to his music more and more, it ministered to me in such profound ways. And it still does today. It can break down walls in my heart and have me weeping and rejoicing in about 10 minutes. I am grateful to God for Keith's music and ministry which has so deepened and guided my faith.

I first found out about Keith from a friend who was going to one of his free concerts. He asked me to go along. I had just become a believer in Jesus Christ and was devoiced with my two boys living with me. That night change the way I looked at being a christian. Keith was so real. He sang with a heart for God. I felt his love for Jesus. His music was so fresh and beutiful. I signed up for his news letter and read very one of them, I shared them with others. When I thought live was not fair, I would put on one of his records and it would bring me closer to God. I still have some of his first last days ministry pamplets. I remarried my ex-wife after changing the way I lived and living for God. We had 3 children, and 43 years of marriage later we know it was because of God sending Keith's music and love to us.
