Still Speaking after 31 Years in Heaven

Share Your Memories of Keith Green

Keith Green FB Share Your Memo
We want to give everyone an opportunity to share their memories of how Jesus used Keith to impact their life.  And gather all the stories in one place for everyone to enjoy.

Keith sure impacted my life.  After Jesus, he was my biggest influence.  Keith modeled giving everything to Jesus, not wanting celebrity, caring for the poor, taking people off the streets, and reaching into prisons.  We did that from the start together.

I would love to know what your story is.  How did Keith impact your life?  Were you at a concert?  Was it through the music?  Are you in ministry?  On the mission field?

How did Keith impact you, and what are you doing now that you think you might not be doing — if not for his influence?

Please share your story in the comment section below.
I’ll start!

I grew up listening to Keith and was named after Bethany Green :) we have home videos of me and my sisters dancing and singing 'the Easter Song'. Keith's music impacted me in many ways, as did his heart for missions. I did a DTS with YWAM as well as their midwife school. During the midwife school my heart was opened to the cry of injustice of the women and unborn/ babies in developing nations.
I'm 26 now and have two little boys ( Josiah, named after Josiah Green, and Hasten Justice Mercer, named as a prayer to see Gods justice and mercy come soon) and I pray that they become the mighty men of God that walk in boldness and humility as Keith did.
So very inspired by Keith, Melody and family!
Blessings xo

I was born 3 months before Keith died - so that makes me 31 years old. My parents listened to him, so I heard him when I was a young child. I've rediscovered him several times over the years, and several years ago read his biography. I am floored by his faith. He definitely struggled through a lot of things, but his passion and his message - there hasn't been anyone like him in Christian music since, and that's a shame. Sometimes when I'm in a dry spell, I listen to his music and it brings me to the foot of the cross.

I was introduced to Kieth Green's ministry when i got radically saved in 1979 at the age of 21.I got to go to his free concert in Indianapolis,In. a few months before he died. I will never forget the powerful anointing i experienced at his concert.I didn't know what it was until someone explained it to me! He also gave away his albums for free if someone couldn't afford it.This spoke volumes to me about his integrity and selflessness and desire to just minister salvation to people.I never saw any of the rock stars at concert give away something for free.I started listening to his music and getting the Last Days newsletters that inspired my Christian walk.I also would tell others to listen to the music and experience the power of the Holy Spirit! I got involved in the pro-life ministry because of the influence of both Melody and Keith at that time.I appreciated the radical stand they took for Jesus and the message of no compromise. He is one of the ministries that shaped my Christian foundation early on.I agree about the analogy of the seed that has to fall to the ground and die to produce fruit giving some meaning to why the Lord took him home so soon in his ministry.I still get tearful when i listen to his music and his message still challenges me to give all to Jesus.

I became a Christian in April 1982 and one of my first Christian songs I listened to were songs by Keith Green. They contained so much truth and life that through his lyrics I was mentored in my early days of my Christian journey ... I still listen to his music today and am encouraged how much influence Keith has had on Christians and non Christians the last 31 years. It brings a whole new revelation on the scripture ... 'unless a grain/seed falls in the ground and dies it can bear no fruit ...' Thank you Melody for keeping Keith's message and passion for Jesus alive ... Many blessings Edith

I was in 9th grade attending a small Christian high school. I walked into my Freshman Bible class, found my desk and sat down. There was a sheet of paper on my desk that had a heading that read, "Song: Sheep and the Goats Artist: Keith Green" and then there were blank lines to write down your thoughts.

When everyone finally sat down and settled, my Bible teacher, Tom Osborn, told us all to put our heads down on our desks and just listen. So we did and even though Keith's passionate voice was nice and loud, you still could have heard a pin drop.

I remember writing something like this..."This guy sounds CRAZY! The wild piano, the deep emotional voice...a little too much for me." But Tom continued throughout the school year, every Friday, with more CCM music, a lot of which was Keith. By the end of the year, I was hooked...on Keith's music, but even more so on Jesus, thanks to Keith and Tom. I was heart broken when I heard of Keith's death, as was Tom.

Tom and I are still close friends after more than 30 years, as I am still close friends with my Keith Green music collection. What a blessing!

Keith came to our youth group @ Church on the Hill in Vallejo, CA back in the 70's and I was never the same after that concert. It was my first chance to see someone sold out, talented and a worshipper who was sitting on the floor near the piano just weeping ask the Holy Spirit to have His way.Over the many years now since that concert, Bro. Keith still has an influence of how I worship God even today. He made it personal like nobody else and knowing that he and his family counted the cost has continuing to inspire me. May the Lord continue to bless his legacy, family and ministry...

I want to... I need to... be more like Jesus!

I hadn't anticipated the surge of emotion that welled up within me as I listened to some of Keith's albums recently. I remembered the time I first heard his music; the joy, the honesty, and the challenging way I felt God pinpointing areas in my life that He wanted to be part of. Sitting in my office I wept remembering the times I hadn't been faithful to God, the mistakes He'd let me make since then and the sense of complete disbelief and unworthiness that in spite of all my failings He has blessed me just the same. Life seemed so much simpler back then.
I remember how I felt robbed that having just 'discovered' his music, Keith had been taken from us and I still wonder why?
When the 'Jesus Commands Us to Go' album came out I remember where I was and who I was with as if it was yesterday...the freshness of his lyrics, his message, hasn't dimmed over time. The poignancy, the bite in the words still calls us to be iron sharpening iron.
Sadly missed but never forgotten.

I first saw Keith at Jesus Northwest in the early 1980's. People's Church in Salem, Oregon,(where I was a member) sponsored the Jesus festival for many years during the
summer. As a pianist myself, I noticed right away how incredibly talented he was on the piano and how humble he was about it.Not only could he hold an audience with his
performing style, but his preaching really made you think. When I heard of his death, I was mad at God for a long time, but have come around to realizing that none of us really are here on earth long and what we do while we are here is what is important.I still love playing and singing his music. It so happens I am filling in as accompanist at church this Sunday and I had already planned on playing some of Keith's songs before I even saw your notice. Thank you for this tribute and may God continue to bless you.

I remember where I was when I heard of Keith's and Josiah's tragic deaths so clearly. I lived in the San Fernando Valley (southern California) and was driving from Reseda (home) to Glendale where I worked at a Christian bookstore. Listening to morning talk radio, they announced the plan crash as it involved a family who formerly lived in Simi Valley. They mentioned Keith's name as a secondary name to the story, but I could barely keep control of the car in my shock. At the Christian store where I worked, Keith's music had long been a best-seller, and we were pleased that Last Days was making his recordings free to those who couldn't afford to purchase it.

I also remember because it was July 28, my birthday, as well as the anniversary of Johann Sebastian Bach's death (in 1750).

Keith's and Melody's ministry has touched so many lives, and I still listen to his music often and with praise to God for his honesty, zeal for Christ and good quality music. God bless you all!
