Still Speaking after 31 Years in Heaven

Share Your Memories of Keith Green

Keith Green FB Share Your Memo
We want to give everyone an opportunity to share their memories of how Jesus used Keith to impact their life.  And gather all the stories in one place for everyone to enjoy.

Keith sure impacted my life.  After Jesus, he was my biggest influence.  Keith modeled giving everything to Jesus, not wanting celebrity, caring for the poor, taking people off the streets, and reaching into prisons.  We did that from the start together.

I would love to know what your story is.  How did Keith impact your life?  Were you at a concert?  Was it through the music?  Are you in ministry?  On the mission field?

How did Keith impact you, and what are you doing now that you think you might not be doing — if not for his influence?

Please share your story in the comment section below.

I’ll start!

My husband and I were in college in the late '70s and early '80s and our neighbors shared Christ with us over and over! They succeeded in taking us to a Bible teaching church and pulling out the Bible most times we were together. Before we accepted Christ as our personal Savior, another Christian couple had given us about a half dozen Christian music artists to listen to on cassette tape!!! Keith Green, of course, was one of them! We both loved Keith's ballad style of music and were happy to replace our secular music with his! It was a real blessing that God graciously put people and music into our lives to work all things out for good and for His glory.

In college, I went through a real time of searching for truth. I had been raised in a Christian home but my family had all fallen away from God. My mom finally had come back to the Lord and was praying for me and my husband to get back on track. I remember God began to follow me around and sent people to me to bring me back to him. Shortly after that I picked up the book "No compromise " about Kieth's life and pursuit of truth. It gave me the courage to step out and completely trust God again. If Keith could be crazy for Jesus, I can too. It has been 15 years since then and I am in full-time ministry and my husband is the associate pastor at our church. This is what we were made for and I thank God for Keith's full on no compromise attitude toward trusting One God and serving Him with all his heart!

I was doing DTS at the Tyler, Texas base. A group of us went over to Keiths base for a small concert. He had just come back from a big gig somewhere and just wanted to worship the Lord. It was a beautiful time with Him. I have loved him ever since. His intimacy with the Father was something I really had never seen. It still impacts me. Thanks for your ministry. We have also visited and worked with the orphange in Mexico.

I am 59 years old and I started listening to Kieth right after he went home with Jesus. I spent all of the 1980's &1990's listening every day to His music on cassette tapes in my car. I would take rides in the evening after work. His music, His songs would minister life to me. God would lift me up and speak to me through my most difficult time in my life. There has been no other match to Kieths Gospel through music. His life for Jesus is what gave His music such an anointing like no other. I still listen to this day (but on CD).

In 1999 my pastor introduced me to Keith's music . I broke in the car as I listened to rushing wind ,and until your love broke through . Ever since that moment in the car I felt God speak to me ,to write and evangelize Gods word through song n worship . Keith not only exemplified to me to worship God w all your being but he exemplified to me how worship was more than music , hearing him speak was so radical, bold ,n fearless...it changed me forever in my walk w the Lord . When I read the book no compromise I read it inone day ,blown away by the anointing of God over Keith n melody green . I know if God could move in them he could in me . God could use me around the world to save souls for His kingdom. I don't think I sing great or play piano great but I know God has called me to break yolks of bondage and rage war against principalities of evil through worship n proclaiming His word . Can't wait to see Keith in heaven one day too and just rejoice before the throne of God as he is

When my parents became filled with the spirit in college, the songs and concerts of Keith inspired and challenged them to pursue Christ passionately. That legacy continues with me: when I was 18 I read No Compromise and it changed my life forever. I felt that I stood at a crossroads between choosing mediocrity/lukewarmness, or passionate pursuit of the Kingdom. I made my choice, and now 7 years later am in full time ministry, using the story of Keith Green as inspiration and encouragement in my daily life. I am so thankful for his story of fearless passion for the Kingdom.

The late 70's and I'm Surprised by Joy in my first year of university in the South Island of New Zealand. Everything is new and exciting ... hearing great Christian music for the first time ... Larry Norman, Barry McQuire, etc, and then one day come across Keith's first album somehow. Amazed by the passion and sincerity of the songs and the man ...sign up to Last Days newsletter ...over the next decade encouraged, challenged and fed by the great articles therein. Become involved in the pro-life movement as a result. The anticipation of sending off for Keith's new albums, being blown away by the non-conformity of the message 'pay only what you can afford' as a broke student ... the brilliance and blessing of the songs. Worship leading in many churches through the years with 'There is a Redeemer' as one of the evergreen staples. Very grateful to Keith and Melody for their input into my life in those formative years, blessings guys!

The ministry of Keith and Melody Green continues to point us to live sacrificially for our Savior Jesus. Of course the music was the beginning, but getting to know the family was life-changing for my family. We were the concert directors for Keith in Birmingham, Alabama and we were thrilled to help facilitate the concert but more than that to rub shoulders with Godly men and women from pilots to the Green children to sound technicians to LDM staff. We were introduced to YWAM through the Greens and have gotten a chance to host many groups. The thing about the folks at Last Days that was so captivating to my husband, Jim, and me was that their faith was genuine and they were serious and intentional about spreading God's love with others. I had the privilege of knowing their precious children and a memory of their son, Josiah, will stay with me until I get to laugh about it in Heaven with him. We were working pretty hard with concert details but I had gotten a chance to hang out with the kids and play and laugh with them. I had kids close to their ages. We were in the middle of a silly song and giggles when his curly-headed little blond self stopped playing long enough to ask me, "Excuth me, Lith, um, do you know Je-thuth?" I stopped, gave him my full attention, and told him I did, but thanks for asking.-, then resumed the playtime. I was blown away that a little 3 1/2 year old tyke would have a heart so sensitive to the Lord. That's how the Greens were training their little ones. On the fateful day in July, one of the LDM staff, Kim Geiger, was visiting our family when he got the news of the plane crash. he immediately left to go home to TX and we decided to make the drive across the country to support Melody. What a precious time awaited us. The staff were busy trying to oversee the crowds, but the spirit around the ministry was still one of praise to our sovereign Savior. I especially remember meeting the parents of the pilot who was also killed. Because he had stayed in our home, they thanked us for the hospitality for their son whereas Jim and I assured them that the blessing was all ours, having gotten to know the amazing Don Burmeister. Keith's life story, death and legacy have affected one family in Alabama in innumerable ways. One of our sons is named for Keith and all of them are familiar with Keith and look forward to meeting him one day soon. Thank you, Mel, for allowing us to reminisce. Your life and songs have continued to minister to us over the miles. Keep writing the movie and adding to the story with your precious daughters. Keith would be so proud of you for how you have persevered!!! I love you! Liz

I accepted Christ at age 13. My family made a move a year after that decision, and just as I was entering high school. I clung to my friendship with Christ after leaving dear friends and as I made a new start in a new community. I played Keith's music all the time. The songs were so worshipful and helped me to remain strong in my faith. I will never forget the impact of his music. Thank you Keith Green for giving to the Lord!

I'm Chilean,I'm now 21. I was impacted with Keith's words when I was 15.
At that time I had many friends who had a strong call to werve the Lord overseas, and I was feeling like I had no special task to accomplish. However, a friend of mine, who is a missionary from the USA gave me this blue flyer with Keith Green testimony and sermon.
It sounds silly know, but when I read his words telling that we were ALL called to preach the gospel, I was amazed. That was a great discovery to me. I praise the lord fot Keith and Melody's life. You have impacted my heart deeply.
Now I'm in college getting ready to travel overseas to preach the gospel in Africa.
Thank you, and praise the Lord!!! :)
