Still Speaking after 31 Years in Heaven

Share Your Memories of Keith Green

Keith Green FB Share Your Memo
We want to give everyone an opportunity to share their memories of how Jesus used Keith to impact their life.  And gather all the stories in one place for everyone to enjoy.

Keith sure impacted my life.  After Jesus, he was my biggest influence.  Keith modeled giving everything to Jesus, not wanting celebrity, caring for the poor, taking people off the streets, and reaching into prisons.  We did that from the start together.

I would love to know what your story is.  How did Keith impact your life?  Were you at a concert?  Was it through the music?  Are you in ministry?  On the mission field?

How did Keith impact you, and what are you doing now that you think you might not be doing — if not for his influence?

Please share your story in the comment section below.

I’ll start!

This will be short. Keith sang in a way that no other Christian sang, like he was really in love with Jesus, the way we all should be, but the world tugs as never before. It also seems like Christians and Christianity are being attacked as never before. Maybe it's just the internet, but I've seen things expressed that have appalled me, and things I never even thought of before. If we all could just have the child like love Keith seemed to express in his music, we all would be better off. I'm not sure why the Lord took him so young, but he is still reaching people after 31 years. I was 21 & in Japan on an army base at the time he was taken. I wonder what he would be like today!

I found out about Keith when I first became a born-again believer at 19 (in 1981). We who came into the kingdom during the "Keith Green years" call ourselves "The Keith Green Generation." His songs and lyrics were woven into everything I was rapidly learning about Jesus at that amazing time in my life. The sincere relationship Keith had with the Lord modeled for me the personal and intimate relationship I could have with Jesus, too. I quickly memorized every song on Songs For The Shepherd and later sang Keith and Melody's version of The Lord Is My Shepherd at my grandmother's funeral. I was home on maternity leave with my first baby when I heard the news of the plane accident. Could. Not. Believe. It. I had the privilege of attending his memorial service at Portland's Memorial Coliseum with Second Chapter Of Acts. Years later, in a season of deep, deep depression due to marital violence and separation, the Lord woke me up one morning to one of Keith's songs on KPDQ, Portland, Oregon. (If you knew KPDQ Portland at that time, you would never EVER expect to hear a Keith Green song - it's primarily Christian talk-radio.) This song was the turning point in my life - the fact that God had it play just for me and the fact that the words were His special message - promise - to me, touched me deeply and things began to turn around from there. The song was, When I Hear The Praises Start. Maybe it sounds silly but my list of some of the first people I want to meet in Heaven are King David and Keith Green. :) I wanna worship with em both!

I saw Keith play his heart out to the Lord one day in the early 70's, I think that's when it was, at Calvary Chapel, Costa Mesa; the church where I received Jesus and got saved. I will never forget his passion, in playing the piano, and the humility, and love that he portrayed, when speaking out for Jesus. And I have never heard someone play piano as unto the Lord with that same passion, since. God bless you Medody!! :)

I first heard There is a Redeemer on a Christian radio station from Chicago and completely loved the music so much that I immediately purchased every Keith Green song available. I read the book No Compromise from cover to cover in almost one sitting. I purchased the only video I could find of him also at that time. I can say I have almost all the songs memorized with their powerful messages through his music. Keith has been very influential in my Christian growth by his strong testimony, his musical genius and gifted preaching. I subscribed to the magazine Last Days Ministries as well. His work continues to inspire me to a closer walk with God and to be about our Lord's work of advancing the knowledge and need for the Saviour. Thank you and God bless. Susan

I was this frighten young girl moving into yet another foster home .... My foster dad was going to be a preacher! I was there three months I was waiting for them to get rid of me ... Didn't happen:-) I was given pretty dresses and brought to church I had been in churches before but this one was different and I made friends with lots of people my foster dad got up there and he opened with Keith Green "Create in me a Clean Heart"
It shouted at me that my heart was dirty and my soul matter to someone and Jesus loved me no matter what!
So I came up to the altar my foster dad asked me if I wanted to know Jesus I said I've tried to find love everywhere else so let me try Jesus. It was March 1989 Jesus came into my life I was 13 and began a new life. My favourite song that I play for all teenagers that come into my home is Prodigal Son suite :-) God used Keith to bring me to a saviour and Holy Spirit changed me forever.!!! I love that I have all my music from ITunes :-) thank you Jesus and Melody for my opportunity to share. My foster parents became my parents Dad and Mom I love you both!!

I was blessed to have heard Keith perform in Ann Arbor, MI (I think that was the place) at the University of Michigan back around 1980. I subscribed to LD newsletter and had purchased his recordings with what little money I, as a high school student with no job, had. God spoke to my young heart through his soul-gripping lyrics; they minister to me until this day! I had what I believe to be a supernatural experience on that day when I found out Keith had been called Home. I for some reason was napping in the afternoon in my parents' bedroom (which I never did); Mom and Dad had a clock radio that came on out of the blue...it was not on when I went to sleep. I awoke to hear the announcement of the plane crash and was groggy, not actually believing what I'd heard. I even went to the extent of calling a local news station to confirm that what I thought I'd heard was true, that our beloved Keith was Home with Jesus. They confirmed it and I recall even now my amazement that God knew how special Keith's and your ministry (via lyrics) had been to me. Praise the Lord for His gifts to us...I look forward to our reunion in Glory!

I had joined Calvary Commission in Lindale, TX in 1981. With many ministries in Lindale, we would all gather every Sunday, at usually YWAM for services. Every now and then Keith would lead us in worship and share his heart with us. We got to help out at one of Keith's concerts at Kiel Auditorium in St Louis. I was in Lindale on 7-28-82 when the plane went down, and has always been very hard to understand why God would call Keith home at the prime of his ministry. But HIS ways are not our ways!

We never got to meet Keith or see him in concert but his music was such a big part of our lives. We used to use his songs in our youth group to get the kids to think deeper about their walk with Jesus. We used the magazines and tracts also. I will never forget the day I heard about his passing. I immediately had a picture in my mind of Keith sitting down with David and his harp and the two of them making music together. Don't know how theologically sound that is but it was a comfort.

Keith meant so much to my teenage years and his music left me with a passion to sing praise to GOD and to Rock for Jesus ... When I was a young musician I was inspired by Keith and his mission to offer his music for no cost to those that could not afford.... I was one of those recipients.... Raised by my Mother who was a single parent, we could not afford any extra's... Now 30 years later, I have my own ministry and we offer our Christian music for no cost as well. This has been a life dream to be anything at all close to what Keith and Melody Green's Ministry has meant to my life...
It isn't much... But this is a minisitry and this is what I do... ROCK FOR GOD @ GOD ROCK MINISTRIES... THANK YOU SO MUCH MELODY FOR CONTINUING
