Still Speaking after 31 Years in Heaven

Share Your Memories of Keith Green

Keith Green FB Share Your Memo
We want to give everyone an opportunity to share their memories of how Jesus used Keith to impact their life.  And gather all the stories in one place for everyone to enjoy.

Keith sure impacted my life.  After Jesus, he was my biggest influence.  Keith modeled giving everything to Jesus, not wanting celebrity, caring for the poor, taking people off the streets, and reaching into prisons.  We did that from the start together.

I would love to know what your story is.  How did Keith impact your life?  Were you at a concert?  Was it through the music?  Are you in ministry?  On the mission field?

How did Keith impact you, and what are you doing now that you think you might not be doing — if not for his influence?

Please share your story in the comment section below.
I’ll start!

I was "19" when I first heard Keith's music, back in 1982. "No Compromise" had a huge impact on my life. Every song carried such power and conviction! After hearing "Jesus Commands Us To Go" the Lord led me to Y.W.A.M. Our missions trip took us to Guatemala for a month, followed by a month in New Orleans LA (during Mardi Gras)...We read a book called "Is That Really You God? by Loren Cunningham. Where I learned how to HEAR the still small (but very clear) voice of God. I'd like to say that I followed Him ever since then, but I gradually fell away, allowing other things to creep in, and take my mind off of Jesus. It was songs like: "Create In Me A Clean Heart" and "Rushing Wind" that drew me back to the Lord. I still listen to Keith's music today..."If you've done it to the least of these my Brethren, you've done it unto me." (Matt 25)

I did not get saved until 1989 when I was 19 years old. I had not heard of Keith Green or any other Christian musician. But when my friend in Bible College shared Melody's book "No Compromise", I was forever changed. I could not put the book down as the radical challenges and way of living in it was pushing me further and further to what I knew the Lord was calling me to do. Eventually I began to collect Keith's music and continued to be challenged by the higher call . Though I started full time ministry shortly after Bible College, It would be a few years before I found that my deepest passion was to work with the poor. I would often come home from my ministry position and listen to Keith Green and grow with conviction to follow my heart. The message through the many songs that he and Melody wrote, grounded me like no other. Now 24 years later I still play those songs to keep me on track as I, along with my wife of 20 years, lead a ministry of worship and compassion. The Lord used Keith's message to teach me to "Open my Eyes" to the broken around me. I serve the poor in Mexico today because I was inspired by Keith Green's message and the ministry of Melody and Last Days.

I saw Keith in "concert" several times, but it wasn't a "look at me sing song" type of concert, but one that brought focus and glory to the Lord. Each time I was challenged to live my life more fully and devoted to the one who gave all for me. The moment I heard of his death, and the death of two of the children, I cried and cried. The radio played him singing "There is a Redeemer, Jesus, God's own son...When I stand in glory,
I will see his face, And there I'll serve my king forever, In that holy place. " I knew he was singing with the angels, but the loss felt down here was such a huge one. I couldn't fathom Melody's sense of loss losing husband and children in a moment, and just prayed for support and His comfort and grace. Keith was the real deal, not just a performer. His life was lived out of his love and commitment for Jesus and what mattered. Thank you for carrying on his legacy, Meoldy.

I was introduced to Keith as a new Christian and new wife by my ex-husband. We both loved Keith's music and were really blessed to receive his Last Day's Newletter magazines in New Zealand. We loved reading them from cover to cover every time they arrived and I still have some that I have kept. I also read "The Keith Green Story" twice. It has so inspired me and also love his music and I still quote lines from different songs from time to time to encourage people to reach the lost!! Loved his Ministry and heart for the lost and admire you Melody for carrying it on all these years!

My university room mate introduced me to Keith in 1980. His first two albums helped me greatly at that time (and still do). His song Asleep in the Light influenced our Campus Christian group to run a mission. I loved the challenge I got from reading the LDM newsletters - every article seemed to hit the spot! When he died I was devastated. His songs and message live on though - even way over here in little old New Zealand. My three children and many members of the youth group my wife and I run, have been touched by Keiths music and message in some way over the years. Kia Kaha.

Keith's music was the first Christian music I heard that wasn't church hymns as I was raised in a traditional church in little old New Zealand. I always turn to his music even now if I am going through tough times as his music is timeless and like the apostle Paul he was a man born out of time. His music is prophetic and as relevant now maybe even more now in fact than when he wrote it. His song To obey is better than sacrifice is a song that still challenges me to strive even harder to the goal of the high calling of Jesus as much as it did when I first heard it all those years ago. Words can never express the influence Keith's music has had on my life and still does. Thank you Melody for carrying on Keith's legacy. Know that his gift of music will never end as new generations find the truth that Keith lived so passionately to convey through his music. I praise the lord for Keith and his music which sets the standard for music that says it as it is and creates disciples because of it.

Ever since I became a child of Christ in 2002 I've been deeply touched by Keiths songs and his live performances. I'm so grateful! The first time I ever heard him was when we recieved a cd in wedding gift from our friends. And on that cd, the song ' oh Lord, You're beautiful' was the only song that I wanted to hear at that time. It's not just a good song, it is a true worship song, when I hear Keith sing it I feel the presence of God!
A couple of years ago, I read Melodys book about Keiths life and I can't describe how much Jesus has changed my heart and taught my heart through it. Me, my husband and our three children have been so blessed!
This is just a little bit of what God has done in my life through Keith and Melody,

I remember "The day the Music died" and Keith Graduated to play in Heaven. I called up the DJ @01:30 am at WCIE in Lakeland to console him. He was overcome with grief and wanted to talk to someone.

Keith had a gift I prayed many times I could receive one like his. The ability to write with a "Holy Fire." Now after way more than 300 songs I don't think I have it yet. But there was only 1 Keith Green wasn't there!

God Bless you Melody for carrying one the work you both started. There will be great rewards for you both in Heaven. His songs still Bless me and convict me. Sometimes at the same time!

My eyes are too wet to write right now... sniff.... I missed hearing Keith "Live" by 2 weeks... attended instead what turned out to be a tear-jerking Memorial Service instead... I STILL sing "(Nothing Lasts Except the) GRACE BY WHICH I STAND (In Jesus)"... as a comfort to myself, and as a witness to dear friends in times of crisis or sadness or transition...
