Still Speaking after 31 Years in Heaven

Share Your Memories of Keith Green

Keith Green FB Share Your Memo
We want to give everyone an opportunity to share their memories of how Jesus used Keith to impact their life.  And gather all the stories in one place for everyone to enjoy.

Keith sure impacted my life.  After Jesus, he was my biggest influence.  Keith modeled giving everything to Jesus, not wanting celebrity, caring for the poor, taking people off the streets, and reaching into prisons.  We did that from the start together.

I would love to know what your story is.  How did Keith impact your life?  Were you at a concert?  Was it through the music?  Are you in ministry?  On the mission field?

How did Keith impact you, and what are you doing now that you think you might not be doing — if not for his influence?

Please share your story in the comment section below.

I’ll start!

I went to his concert in Sydney as a young teenager. I loved his songs & listened to his cassettes heaps. We sang some of his songs at church. We were sad when he died but continued to be encouraged by receiving Melody Greens newsletter which inspired many teenagers. I am still involved in ministry at my local church & have enjoyed teaching Scripture in public schools for the past 23 years.Wonderful to hear that his music is still having an impact on people all over the world.God Bless.

God called me into his ministry in 1985 and used the songs from Keith Green as well as the flyer: "Why you should go to the mission-field". So I served in Africa and then the Lord called me and my wife to church planting in Germany with Calvary Chapel.
So 13 years ago we started citychapel Stuttgart (www.citychapel.de)with the reason, to multiply the vision from Keith and Melody, to preach the Gospel, wake up christians, equip and send workers into the harvest.
Praise the Lord for Keith, Melody and Last days ministries

As a new Christian, Keith's songs were like sermon's to music. I still enjoy listening to them. I miss the Last Day's Ministries magazine, for the articles in them always were timely and I thoroughly enjoyed reading each article. I prayed for Melody and the children after Keith's tragic death and felt a loss of my own. His legacy goes on!

I remember coming across Keith's Biography (Autobiography?) one day, years ago... I can't remember where I was... possibly in Bible College in America... I opened it randomly and read wherever the page fell open. Well, I tell you. I bawled. The sweet loving conviction of God had me in floods of tears. I can't even remember what I read. But, man, it was powerful.

Another story: I got saved in Colombia, South America in 1996, two weeks after arriving in Cartagena to teach English. My roommate who I hardly knew was a committed Christian. She had come out to Colombia at the same time as me, bringing with her a handful of cassette tapes. One of those tapes was Keith's songs. I was a brand new Christian, getting blessed and blasted by Keith's songs. Wow!

I first heard Keith's music in Youth Group as a teenager and loved it. Later I had the opportunity to work in Singapore for a couple of weeks. I took "The Keith Green" story to read. I was so impacted by the humbleness, gentleness of spirit and humility shown by Keith and Melody, I wanted to share it. I purposely left the book in the bedside table of the hotel room. My prayer is that someone found it and read it and was changed in some way by the story.

I first heard Keith as a new Christian in 1980. A Country music station played Christin music on Sunday mornings, we listened to as we got ready for church. The song was "So You Wanna Go Back to Egypt?" Later, in Bible school Iwas introduced to more of his music - eventually owning most of his albums. My wife and I became 'baby bulk distributors' of the LDN. Shocked at the news of his death we wrote Melody inviting her to come stay with us (we've never met, but we loved them from afar and wanted to help) if she needed a place to go. We raised all our kids and youth groups on his music. He still goes on nearly every road trip! His writings, srmons and most of all his music has blessed us and help ground me in the Lord. Few people have the impact the Green's have had despite Keith's brief life on earth. Heaven will reveal it's worth. The Lord used him in my life in a powerful way. Blessing!

I was a new believer in San Clemente, CA in 1976 or 1977 when I heard Keith sing, play the piano and preach. It was a weeknight at the 1st Presbyterian Church before he was famous. I was a grocery clerk so I did not get Fridays or Saturdays off so that is why I know it was a weeknight. I fell to my knees in worship of the Lord. He was playing the piano, singing and preaching what God had laid on his heart to tell the small group of people gathered on that evening. God used Keith to touch my life and point me to knowing Jesus more and turning my life to Him in a new way. When he & your children went to be with the Lord I was married and had children of my own. My heart broke at the thought of all he had done for the Lord and others and all those that would not get to hear his music. I have been so pleased to hear over the years that his music was still played and the Lord is using it everyday.

I saw Keith in Peoria, Illinois the Spring before the plane crash. I will never forget his passion for Jesus. It is just as strong today when I hear his songs. I remember this morning 31 years ago when I was in Grapevine, TX and I read the news. I can still feel my heart aching over loosing him, the children, the other family, the pilot, and my heart broke for you Melody. Keith still inspires me today to be a better daughter of God. Your strength to go on inspires me too.

I want to add a second response. Keiths period of time here as a son of God was a unique time, the heels of the JEsus People movement in my opinion. My wife and I where awakened to the reality of Jesus through His love and people like Keith brought us closer as God had designed. I am so thankful for the people that God uses. We cried and cried when Keith and the kids were ost to this world, I shared his minstry infront of an adult class in a church and cried that we need more people like him that would sell themselves out for Gods will. Why did our Father take them, we cannot know, but going on may we focus on the message as God gave it to Keith and now Melody. At 63 I have continually seen htings slide in christianity, Keith may have been out of his mind if he were here to see such debachery. I ask that all who are sharing and listening to our Father would commit themselves as Keith and Melody have to the Lord and His will.I need o idol, whether Keith, Paul or John, I have Jesus and there is nothing more needed. Let us properly keep all things in their proper place, as Keith was a very good example of being sold out for Jesus, so is Melody.
