Still Speaking after 31 Years in Heaven

Share Your Memories of Keith Green

Keith Green FB Share Your Memo
We want to give everyone an opportunity to share their memories of how Jesus used Keith to impact their life.  And gather all the stories in one place for everyone to enjoy.

Keith sure impacted my life.  After Jesus, he was my biggest influence.  Keith modeled giving everything to Jesus, not wanting celebrity, caring for the poor, taking people off the streets, and reaching into prisons.  We did that from the start together.

I would love to know what your story is.  How did Keith impact your life?  Were you at a concert?  Was it through the music?  Are you in ministry?  On the mission field?

How did Keith impact you, and what are you doing now that you think you might not be doing — if not for his influence?

Please share your story in the comment section below.
I’ll start!

My husband and I met The Lord in 1991. Our first Pastor introduced us to the life and music of Keith Green - wisely so, I think. His passionate conviction shaped the early years of our Christian walk, leading to a life of evangelism, discipleship and missionary service that continues today. Thank you.

My husband and I were born again in 1977. We soon found Keith's music and were so lifted by his songs!! I subscribed to Last Days Ministries and still have all the editions. I was connected to Melody's stand against abortion and wrote to her to express my support of her. She wrote back and encouraged me to get inolved in the battle to help young women who were considering abortion. I then got involved with my local Birthright organization. I was blessed by the girls I met and was able to help through Jesus. Keith was a big influence in our walk with God. His songs are timeless and his love and commitment to God shine through each one. I have decorated my husband's office with Keith's album covers. When God took him home, He left us with Keith's beautiful, meaningful, worshipful music and for that we are thankful. And someday we will meet him in Heaven.

The second Christian album I purchased was the first Keith Green album after the LORD took off the veil of Moses from me in December 1976. I eventually purchased all of his albums and then almost two years ago, purchased all of his CDs. To this day, his anointed music continues to bless me.

I met and spoke to Keith at length in July 1978 at the Christian awards event (I can't remember the official title) in Estes Park, Colo. As a matter of fact, the black and white photo that Melody has shared about her memories of Keith, looks similar to what I remember about Keith's ministry in music during that night in Estes Park.

As a Hebrew-Christian myself, Keith and Melody were/are spiritual mentors for me, since there weren't any people of Jewish heritage who were also Christians where I went to college. That summer I was also in summer school so I was living closer to Estes Park and another Christian sister in the LORD from college and I drove to the event. I was so excited to see and hear Keith perform live at the concert, but didn't imagine that I would get to talk with him afterwards!

He was very down-to-earth and didn't have that rock-star demeanor that is so prevalent with, unfortunately, Christians of notoriety. One of the things Keith told me as we were talking about the troubling problem of wheat and weeds in the Body of Christ, was that by 300 A.D. the devil figured out that killing the Christians wasn't working, because more people would become believers, so the devil adopted the philosophy if you can't beat them, join them and had infiltrated Christianity ever since. What wonderful, right-to-the-point examination of the Scriptures that Keith had and ministered to me, a sister in the LORD that he had just met. I have always cherished that discussion with him and on occasion, am reminded of Keith's wise words.

In the spring of 1979 while on Spring Break, I met an elderly minister of the Gospel in Tucson and while visiting with him at his home, noticed a really cool painting of a Lamb representing "Behold the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world." (which was and still is my favorite verse in the Bible). This elderly minister told me that Keith and Melody Green had visited him and upon seeing this painting had also loved it and had requested to borrow it for awhile and the minister had indeed lent it to them.

The day I learned Keith had gone home to be with the LORD was while I was driving in my car on the highway when I heard the radio DJ announce the news. I just couldn't believe it and had to pull over on the side of the road. It was like some heavy object had hit my heart and I was so devastated that even now it brings tears to my eyes. But I know that "...all things work together for good for those who love God, who are called according to his purpose." so just like then and even now, I commit this situation to the LORD and thank him for my brother Keith and his wife Melody and their faithfulness to HIM as servants of the Gospel.

Back in the early 80's, I first heard Keiths music. I was so moved by this man who shared his heart in the gospel message. The more I listened, the more I was challenged. Around 1983 I felt God calling me to do a short term mission in England with YWAM. Keith impacted my life and made me desire to know God in a deeper way. Keith is still changing lives today with his message and music. God bless you brother as you continue to enjoy the blessings in heaven.

Was sitting in a women's conference in Ann Arbor Michigan ....Julie Meyer started playing "There is a Redeemer" ...Apostle Barbara Yoder stood up on the platform and that song's the first time I've heard this song.."The Lord just let me know that He is redeeming my family seed through me! His presence was so strong upon us all...with tears streaming down her face..with a personal touch and encounter..we all felt Jesus walk in! She went to Canada and is traveling with Keith's music...they are playing it on her engagements when she speaks...powerful things are happening..I have played his music since becoming a believer since the 70's...the presence of God falls fresh every time..ITS POWERFUL...His songs beckons Gods presence...that's because Keith loved Him so...

Some of the ones who have made a profound impact for Christ in my life were my parents, Jim Elliot and Kieth. The first time I heard him was at a Jesus festival in a potato field in PA, the same one at which the Lord was dealing with me about forgiving people who had hurt me in the past (I think it was 77) We were all relaxing on the open field in front of the stage not really focusing on what was going on in the program when this guy at the piano in a plaid shirt started performing. It got our attention and that was the beginning of many years of following his music, newsletter, and opening up to the Lord in new and sometimes scary ways. One concert I went to, I think it was in Louisville, KY, I really sensed the Lord and stayed for the meeting after for people who needed to respond (can't remember what it was for) As an artist, his music was lively, creative and fun at times, and searching, and moving at others. As a Christian, he had a heart for Christ and purity in the church.
His influence has played a part in my staying single for several years, being involved in ministry with my parents in a small Indiana community, and keeping pure by having a healthy fear of God. So thankful for him and Melody and the LDM staff and their faithfulness over the years!
Am now married to a wonderful, Godly, husband and thankful for the Lord more and more!

I came across Keith's music online in 2009 and bought 3 CDs that evening. I was touched by his passion and sincerity for The Lord. I wish I'd heard his music earlier. His music continues to be Spirit-breathed!

My parents played many of Keith Green's albums throughout our home growing up and as an adult I still find his music very comforting. I was engaged to the man that I thought was the Love of my life and the relationship came upon some hard trying times. I purchased a greatest hits cd of Keith's and when I listened to it I finally realized that I had began to love my fiancé more than I loved the Lord and all the truth was set free from all the lies that I was living. This great realization I had from hearing his words sang so clearly has helped bring God into our relationship and we are healing:) I love to listen to "You put this love in my heart" and "The Easter song". His music and ministry has been a part of my life for over 31 years and I am thankful to the Lord for Keith Green and his lovely family:)
