Still Speaking after 31 Years in Heaven

Share Your Memories of Keith Green

Keith Green FB Share Your Memo
We want to give everyone an opportunity to share their memories of how Jesus used Keith to impact their life.  And gather all the stories in one place for everyone to enjoy.

Keith sure impacted my life.  After Jesus, he was my biggest influence.  Keith modeled giving everything to Jesus, not wanting celebrity, caring for the poor, taking people off the streets, and reaching into prisons.  We did that from the start together.

I would love to know what your story is.  How did Keith impact your life?  Were you at a concert?  Was it through the music?  Are you in ministry?  On the mission field?

How did Keith impact you, and what are you doing now that you think you might not be doing — if not for his influence?

Please share your story in the comment section below.

I’ll start!

My husband and I were saved in 1985 and were introduced to Keith's music. It had a significant impact on our walk with God. We wanted to see him in concert. We were so saddened when we heard the story of his death. Whenever I think back to our days as early believers, Keith Green is always a part of those fond memories.

I was attending Oral Roberts University when Keith came and did 3 nights of concerts for the students and staff. It was so powerful, and even though we were all students at a Christian university, Keith prophesied that there were some students there who were living in sin. He gave an alter call, and a lot of students came forward and repented. That was the beginning of a revival on campus. Keith gave out his records for free (a radical idea. I wish more artists would follow his lead, as Contemporary Christian Music now seems to be more of an industry than a ministry sometimes.) Most of the students took an album and it was so cool to walk down the hallway of the dorm hearing Keith's music playing from record players. I did notice a difference after those concerts of students being nicer to each other, interacting more with each other, and a general atmosphere change for the better. A revival had come! At the concert, I signed up to get the Last Days newsletter. The next year I got married. My husband and I continued to get the magazines until you stopped printing them. We would read about your ministry site in Texas and it just sounded like such a very anointed and peaceful place to visit or to live. It was our desire to go and visit one day. Then, last year, our son went on a Global Expeditions missions trip(through Teen Mania , who now is headquartered on that site) and we got to go with his team and be leaders! We finally got to see the location where much of your ministry took place. It was awesome. One of Keith's last messages was that Jesus commands us to go and preach the gospel. Now, Teen Mania is in that same location carrying out that very command as they encourage young people to go out and share the love of Jesus all over the world. The Lord has allowed the vision to be carried on to the next generation. So Melody, I am so thankful for the ministry that you and Keith began.

My brother invited me to go to a Keith Green concert in Raleigh NC when I was a senior in high school. The only reason I went was because I had seen a change in my brother and he had a peace that I did not have. I had never heard of Keith Green. That night, May 14, 1982, I was impressed with this guy who banged on the keyboard with passion and his music was great, but then he stopped playing and began to preach- on the parable of the 10 virgins with the message "Will you be ready?" For the first time in my life I was confronted wit h the fact that I was lost and on my way to hell. That night I surrendered my life to Christ and I have never been the same! My friends told me that I was going through a fad that wouldn't last. Well, the fad is still lasting! I have shared the gospel in at least 7 different countries (some more than once) and I today I am a church -planting pastor in VA. God used Keith as His agent to change my life forever! Thank you Melody & God bless you.

I went to one of Keith's farewell concerts in Washington DC. it was Keith's 29th birthday. It was awesome, I was helping as a Ywammer. You had lost your husband, your son and daughter only months prior to this....and still you gave of yourself. God bless you Melody and give you peace.

I was just a baby boy and my mom and dad used to play Keith Greens records before I can even speak; although I didn't understand all his words at the time, I could hear his music and some words and I knew his words were deep spiritual matters. As I grew up, I enjoyed sharing his name and was inspired by his passion for Jesus. I recall a time when I was an older baby boy when my mother informed me that he died in a plane crash. I said, "oh no!" I was sad and it didn't feel right to have someone like him taken so soon and to leave his wife and other children behind and I was sad for the children that died with him. Even now as an adult I am touched by his music and even convicted to be even more centered on Jesus. Tonight I finally read more information on Wikipidea about the details of that day and this site. I book marked this sight and listened to YouTube and prayed that I can learn to abandon all the unnecessary things in my life; those things that are weights and hindrances. Listening to Keith again means alot to me. Thanks Melody for your ministry!

The first time, I have heard the songs of Keith was at the age of seventeen, the start of my life with Jesus. This was sadly years after Keith has died. I felt the love and the passion in his words and his music - and it was a great inspiration for me on my way with Jesus. His music is still a part of my life! I´m so thankful for his songs. God bless you, Melody.

After I became a Christian in college in 1978, a fellow believer loaned me a vinyl copy of "No Compromise". I really liked it and added it to my "fearsome foursome" collection that included Steve Camp, Dallas Holm and Chuck Girard. I liked Keith best, though. I collected all his albums as they came out for the "what I could afford" policy he advocated. I later suscribed to the "Last Days Newsletter" and read it voraciously. I memorized all his albums and would sing them beginning to end while employed as a forest ranger patrolling lonely backroads in a small pickup. I still have all the tracts published. He really cemented my relationship with God during those formative years with the passion and devotion only he could express. I really feel a special bond with him because we "grew up" together in the faith for those precious few years. I never got to see him in person in this life, but look forward to a grand reunion in heaven. I'm sure he's having a great time there--most likely leading angels in worship. God bless Last Days!

I was a "fallen away" Believer who didn't darken a church door for a decade- had only heard of being born again at Arrowhead Springs 10 years earlier. I was a musician and part of quartet from OSU- we sounded like Peter Paul and Mary and I loved all their stuff. We were due to sing at a concert at another university and I became gravely ill and placed in the infirmary. The people I was singing with were Believers- I begged them to release me from the infirmiry but the doc's wouldn't hear of it-- thus ended my trio gig at OSU and my academics temporarily-- my faith wasn't deep enough to withstand how drastically my life changed and the roller coaster ride I went on for the next decade. Broken hearted on so many levels and far away from the Lord--- ten years later when I was totally broken-- the Lord brought contemporary Christian music into my life. Keith Green my all time favorite artist and remains to this day.His music and his message brought me back to the Lord- that was 33 years ago. For a while I was part of the Christian music ministry before the volumne of music with electric instruments damaged my hearing and I stepped off the stage. My love of music has not waned and I pray that this generation and the ones to follow will still have "ears to hear." Thank you Melodie for keeping his music and his memory alive- I am so looking forward to meeting him and getting "music lessons" from my fav.musical brother.

I was a teenager in the '70's and I went with my best friend to Jesus Northwest Concert in Oregon. Her parents took us down and we camped. We were about 14 and ran around listening to concerts--way cool. One of the nights Keith was onstage and as everyone started snapping pictures he said, "put your idol makers away," and started playing. Although I had been raised in the church and had given my heart to Jesus about that time, but he made a huge impact on my life. When I got home I ordered some tapes and signed up for the booklet they'd send every so often. It kept me ontrack and made me think. When I heard the news of the plane crash I weept probably for days. I was very sad, because we didn't have him here anymore I guess to "lead" us, but God had other plans. I can't believe it has been 31 years! I'm still a believer, praise God. Keith's music is God's message and he was just another mentor in my life that kept my eyes on God during my teen and early adult years.

Keith's beautiful, captivating voice, 'broke through' our speakers in August of 1982, like "one crying in the wilderness", singing "Holy, Holy, Holy". I was immediately drawn and still, listening to this hymn I'd sung in church years prior. I had to find out who was singing. Saddened to hear the DJ announce it was the 'late' Keith Green, I made note of Keith's album (straight from Heaven's Treasury) and purchased "Songs For The Shepherd". I believe Keith's music and messages were and still are transcendently 'on time' with God's purpose in more lives than we'll know until revealed in eternity. In the fall of '82, I gave birth to my daughter, Samantha Fe, who lived 9 days on this earth before her Heavenly home going. Keith's music was introduced to me by appointment of the Holy Spirit - vital in the 'new disciple' season of my Husband's and my life - a cherished mainstay of our foundation in Messiah.
Keith and Melody's ministry continually serves a spiritual banquet that inspires, educates, encourages, comforts, strengthens, edifies and reveals God's love to us through His only begotten, beloved Son, Jesus Christ, Savior and LORD.
And everyone who has this hope fixed on Him purifies himself, just as He is pure.
1John 3:3
Much love and many thanks to Keith, Melody & Family!!!
