Still Speaking after 31 Years in Heaven

Share Your Memories of Keith Green

Keith Green FB Share Your Memo
We want to give everyone an opportunity to share their memories of how Jesus used Keith to impact their life.  And gather all the stories in one place for everyone to enjoy.

Keith sure impacted my life.  After Jesus, he was my biggest influence.  Keith modeled giving everything to Jesus, not wanting celebrity, caring for the poor, taking people off the streets, and reaching into prisons.  We did that from the start together.

I would love to know what your story is.  How did Keith impact your life?  Were you at a concert?  Was it through the music?  Are you in ministry?  On the mission field?

How did Keith impact you, and what are you doing now that you think you might not be doing — if not for his influence?

Please share your story in the comment section below.

I’ll start!

I am a 'presenter' on the Community Radio station, Radio 1RPH (Radio Print Handicapped) http://www.radio1rph.org.au in Canberra, Australian Capital Territory. Sunday afternoons, 2-4.30pm, we have the "Christian Perspectives" show, reading news and other material from around the Christian world. There are two songs (Hymns we love to sing) during the show. On Sunday 25 January 2015, I grabbed the Keith Green LPs from the record library, and played "The Lord is My Shepherd" (Songs of the Shepherd) and "Oh Lord You're Beautiful" (So You Want to Go Back to Egypt...). It seemed so natural to use material from my teen years. ;-)

From growing up in the Southern US in the late 1970's and early 80's, and during a time of great Christian music changes and expansion. Keith and others like him were and still are great inspiration and help to me and as know many others.
After many long deep thoughts and prayers for the best impact and legacy I want to leave, for my family and people who God has placed in my life, on the paths. Age and illness can bring these thoughts to most of us,but I have had these thoughts on my heart many other times, too. I have often thought of Keith Green and Rich Mullis and wanted to hear and know more of their history, inspirations and journey. ( It was so good to know there were and are people that have these intense and profound inspirations from God and have been radically changed. I have experienced many times like this and have even been draw to hours of study in God's word and or prayer with singing songs from from heart. I wish I had written them down. But not for any fame or glory, but may be future inspiration for me my children or any others who might have not really know or understood what was going on in my head. Although it came or comes with some strange responses, looks and thoughts of those close or that you work with in ministry.
So this recent search, stems from watching " Ragamuffin" the Rich Mullis story.
I had already experienced that music had always seem to be what draws followers to certain beliefs or mind sets. It's a big part of who I am and how to have corporate or even smaller worship. (Even though I had read and continue to do read a lot about Jesus in the Bible, and realized, He didn't need or use music. Nothing is written about him or his followers having great times of singing. Although, Jewish worship incorporates it... so I would think it was apart of their times together. It's not the main emphasis. At this time I can only remember it being mentioned once during Jesus' ministry. They had sung a hymn or psalm and prayed... don't have the reference clear, will do some research)
Songs, unlike, just watching things on the T.V. You would carry it around with you, in your heart and head. That was way before most people had personal electronic devices. It bothers me, to see how much many of us are constantly reliant on them. I made great efforts to keep my kids from doing the same, but to no real great impact yet. My desires are to live daily to be a better example for them and others around them. Thanks for this site and information contained in it. I too, have had a deep longing, to do and continue spreading Jesus' love to our neighborhoods, communities and unto the world.
Prayerful for all the many, blessed christian organizations and smaller outreach ministries that are growing strong today. May God show us all, daily where he wants us and give us His words and actions to share. Helping us to discern what is truly needed. Sincerely Cherie

I remember visiting this page before, although I'm not sure if I ever commented, and am doing so again, just in case. My parents and I were huge fans of Keith's music, but even moreso of both Keith and Melody's testimony and teachings, which seemed to flow directly from the heart of Jesus. Thus, I grew up, {70's-80's} with Keith on the stereo and Last Days Ministries Newsletters scattered throughout my home. That time period seemed sort of magical, with my parents and fellow church members taking cues from Keith by reaching out to share the good news with others {via prison and abortion ministries, concerts, etc.}. I especially loved witnessing these huge, scary looking men, from my eyes of childhood, as they crumbled in the presence of the Holy Spirit. I saw transformation in those days. LDM, and Keith specifically, seemed to have an anointing from above, that lit a fire within each of us, to love the so called 'unlovable.' I see flickers of this light today and believe that Keith's message helped to create more welcoming, "come just as you are" hearts within so many. The day God called Keith and the babies home is forever etched in my memory and I vividly recall my mother's weeping and groups of people joining to pray for strength, protection, and peace of mind in Melody and the girls. At the time, and honestly still now on occasion, I question this loss, as in why God would take Keith and the babies, when they were clearly needed here, to help win lost souls. But I realize that God's ways are not our own, and know this question is one I won't have an answer to, at least on this side of heaven. I mourn this family and the friends were taken, but know that we will ultimately all be reunited. I must add that, Keith's music and ministry continues to bless me, all these year later. When I lost my young mother unexpectedly a few years back, it was LDM messages, and Keith's recordings that truly touched something within me, giving me hope and encouraging me to finish my own race. Thinking of Melody, witnessing her steadfast fast faith and continued ministry despite the great loss, has helped show me that one can overcome, if they know Jesus. So I'm eternally grateful for the time we were able to share Keith and the kids, and to Melody and the girls, for being such an inspiration.

I was in my first year at a theological college in Assam, India, when I first got the add of LDM magazines. It was 1981. It was not long after I received the first two newsletter issues that I came to know that Keith had left with the children for eternal home with the Lord. I started listening to his music only after that event. Keith's story, his writings and musics are still ringing. Yes it's wonderful how God uses a person in life and after. Melody's act of courage with the children and the LDM through the years are true lessons of hope.I keep thanking the Lord for the Green family.

I have been born again since 12/18/84. My boyfriend-now husband Karl-29 yrs. was living with a christain family. We would have "family night". We would praise Jesus for hours listening to Keith's songs. I remember the feeling of HIS Holy Spirit-new to me back than. The song are new to me-still everytime I hear them.
My family had our shopping trip this past Saturday. We drove around for miles renewing Keith's song. We cried and cried.
If you never heard the song "The Prodical Son", listen to it. It will truely bless you, and fall to your knees-worship him.
Take it from me, and you will be also blest to read Melody's "No Compromise".

I will be 39 next week and although I was too young to even know Keith, his teachings, the anointing of his music which always ushered in the Holy Spirit and the overall message of his no compromise to the Gospel burns on my heart. I am studying and am going into the ministry and God using Keith as a instrument to get through to me have played a major impact that our Father gets the glory that He deserves. As for you Melody you showed so much strength during that difficult time in 1982 and that strength coming from our Lord. And how the Lord continues to use you for the advancement of His Kingdom. God bless you and your family.

I found Keith's music many years ago at a Christian book store. I was at a time in my life that I had put Christ on the back burner and was solely focused on my career...had moved for a job, leaving family behind, fresh out of college, and was facing the new world of teaching in a different culture. Scary time! Made a trip to the big city to shop and happened to walk into the book store, looking for some music to listen to at home, the local radio stations played mostly country and I have never been a fan. Browsing through the selections of cassettes, looking for something interesting, when I found one with a picture of a young man named Keith Green, he had a lamb over his shoulders, on the cover there was a statement that stunned me...basically it said that if you did not have the money to buy this, that you could write to an address and they would send it to you free. WOW! I was intrigued and bought it on the spot. I was not prepared for what I had found, or what God had led me to...the most amazing music, the voice sang from his heart, and the lyrics were so profound, they spoke to my heart instantly. I played that cassette so much that I wore it out, The Lord Is My Shepherd reminded me that the Lord had not left me, I had left Him. Every song on that tape became part of my, and ministered to my life so much! I went back and bought the others that I could find...but I also found out that Keith had died and was with the Lord...I felt like I had lost a friend, a brother! His music became even more special through the years. Since that time, I have married and have found a church home with my husband. It is a ministering, Holy Spirit led church that seeks to find the lost and reach those that are hurting with Jesus Christ. Just recently I found the music again, only this time on iTunes, so I now have them again, bought Melody's book and just finished it. Make My Life A Prayer To You has become my prayer to the Lord, especially the part...no empty words, no white lies, no token prayers, No Compromise! Melody, thank you for your ministry, for sharing your life with Keith and your babies. The Lord used his music to bring me back to Him, and now He is using your words to open my eyes to a closer, more personal walk with the Lord for my husband and myself! We make too many compromises in our society today, and Christians have to follow the teachings of Jesus, not the world. You and Keith did that and helped show us how to do it today. God bless you and your family!

When I I was 16 yrs old in 1980 I gave my life to Jesus and my brother John bought a few of Keith s albums. That year the lord called me to dance with him in prayer . I started to listen to Keith s music and choreographed liturgical drama dance to his songs. My first performance at a prayer group I danced to "Your love broke through" " next I danced to Make a life a prayer to you" . Through his songs and my dance people were being spiritually touched and this was a discovery of a beautiful ministry. Still this day I will watch and listen to Keiths music to help me centre on him particular when life is so challenging. Keith songs bring me back to trust and hang on to Jesus. When I pay attention to Keiths talks and songs, I find myself being connected to Jesus. Thank you beautiful Keith . I look forward to meet you in heaven with Jesus. Just yesterday 8th April 2015 I was sharing to my girlfriend from Indonesia about who Keith Green was to me. That was back 1980. Today at age 51 I still dance at home to Jesus, listening to Keiths songs. I pray I can be Jesus to others and make a difference in this world. Lately I have been thinking getting involved in the Alpha program and share who Jesus is to others. Thank you Keith for who you are to us all and the light of Christ keeps shinning forever even when you are not hear with us on earth. I know you are with our lord doing great works amen I will always love your songs they live for eternally just like Jesus!!
