Still Speaking after 31 Years in Heaven

Share Your Memories of Keith Green

Keith Green FB Share Your Memo
We want to give everyone an opportunity to share their memories of how Jesus used Keith to impact their life.  And gather all the stories in one place for everyone to enjoy.

Keith sure impacted my life.  After Jesus, he was my biggest influence.  Keith modeled giving everything to Jesus, not wanting celebrity, caring for the poor, taking people off the streets, and reaching into prisons.  We did that from the start together.

I would love to know what your story is.  How did Keith impact your life?  Were you at a concert?  Was it through the music?  Are you in ministry?  On the mission field?

How did Keith impact you, and what are you doing now that you think you might not be doing — if not for his influence?

Please share your story in the comment section below.

I’ll start!

I was in the Christian Music shop - a new Christian - and I found Keith's album on it's day of release in Sydney. No-one knew him then but I asked the shop owner to play it. When I heard "You Put This Love in My Heart" I almost jumped through the roof with happiness. So many times over the years I've thought of Keith and the extraordinary person he was and effect he had - but what I most remember was that moment of pure joy.

I consider that Keith discipled me, even though I never met him face to face. I came to know Jesus in 1979, during high school. I was on the mailing list for the Last Day Newsletters and would read them cover to cover as soon as they arrived. I constantly listened to the albums. When I was 17 I finished school early and joined YWAM in Tyler, TX. There were a few days went I volunteered at LDM and sometimes I spotted Keith at the Agape House coffee shop or at church, but I never introduced myself. After returning to CA I attended the final two LA concerts. Keith said "Jesus commands us to GO!" I quit three part time jobs, moved my belongings back to my parents' home and was gone to Japan with YWAM within ten days. That summer (while in Japan) I heard the devastating news of the plane crash. I was grieved, but I resolved to follow Jesus where ever he leads me. Today I continue to "GO" for Jesus, serving international students with the love of Christ for the past 30+ years! The legacy lives on! All for the glory of Christ! Thanks Keith!

I still have cassette tapes by Keith and I really enjoy singing his songs. the one we sing at church is O Lord You're Beautiful.. I find myself singing this quite often. Keith had such a way of putting words to music, he was a true psalmist. His music has always been soothing to my spirit.

I'm 35 and I remember my Mom playing Keith Green records all the time, growing up. When I revisit the songs I am familiar with I am overcome by the Holy Spirit that was obviously infused in his music. I am not sure any music from my childhood could carry over to my adulthood with such a message and a feeling of power and peace and love that Keith Green responsibly portrayed in his songs. Thank you for that!

When I became a Christian in 1980, Keith Green was the first Christian artist I had the pleasure of hearing. I quickly purchased as many of his albums that I could afford. I loved listening to his music and singing and worshiping along with Keith. Then, once I read his testimony I was filled with respect for him and his ministry. He inspired me and taught me much in my early years of walking with Jesus. I still remember the day I heard about the accident. I wept for the man and ministry that I had come to love, and my heart went out to Melody and her family. I still listen to Keith's music all the time and check in on Melody from time to time. I know Keith is blessed as he watches you from Heaven. It always seem to me that Keith was the most like Jesus of any person I knew here on Earth. Thank you Keith and Melody for your love, music, ministry and example to follow. I love you both!

I only saw Keith once, but missed t)he concert.A few months before the accident. He was blunt, almost irritated with the people in the theater. He chastised the crowd for their football game mentality,(many chanting"We've got spirit, yes we do!,We've got spirit, how 'bout you?",and for boasting that "our church group" had seats, while their were 1000 lost people standing outside."Who is bold enough to go outside and give up your seat? Is their one?" Few responded. It was,in my mind,a very sad night. It was like he knew his time here was almost up.Sad spirit in him that night.I pray that the people who sat in our seats found a life in Jesus.Be Blessed.

When I was 16 (1996), I was a part of YWAM's Discipleship Training School thinking that I would JUST do the training and go home to pursue my Career. On the 3rd day of the first week, a concert video was shown of Keith Green challenging the young people for Missions. Something happened within me and I remembered sitting in that chair in front of the screen and just weeping!! The direction of my life was completely altered then and 16 years later, I am still working and going strong in the Mission Field with YWAM. Since then, I've read the book "No Compromise" over and over again and have all the collection of his music. I love the intensity of his passion for the Lost and the Holiness of God. Thank you!!

I came into contact with Keith Green in 1985 through his Songs of the Shepherd which riveted my mind, spirit and heart as a brother was playing through his cassette player. I could not help it but worship my God.
I wonder who the singer was and was told that he was with the Lord. And looked for his music and since then he has been a blessing to my soul.
I have always wondered what the Lord could have done through him if he were here on earth.
The world needs more Keith Greens. Though he is gone he still speaks.

Dearest Melody, I don't know if I could ever adequately tell you what Keith's music, and your's, and Last Days has done for me, but here goes. I started using drugs at age 11 and lived the first half of my life doing exactly what I wanted, when I wanted, under no one's rules or authority. To say I was in the "pit of darkness" and the "miry clay" is an understatement. Eventually, after many many years, God put a Christian in my path and I came to know Him as my Savior, but I continued to wrestle with satan and that struggle almost pulled me away until I found Keith's music. Through Keith's music I came to love and serve Christ with my whole heart. I am a singer (classical study for 25 yrs) and when I was in rehab I began to sing Christian music which is how God led me to Keith. I could not afford a cassette so you guys sent me one for free. I will never ever forget that, and because of that I have given away my music and never sold it. I will say straight up, had I not found the music of Keith Green and played it constantly for so many years, my walk and growth as a Christian would have been non-existent. I am so emotional as I write this - I have learned so much from his music and preaching. It has also helped me in my music ministry - I carry in my Bible, "The only music minister to whom the Lord will say, "Well done, thy good and faithful servant," is the one whose life proves what their lyrics are saying, and to whom music is the least important part of their life. Glorifying the only worthy One has to be a minister's most important goal!" Keith's lyrics shoot right into my heart and focus me immediately on Christ. His music and your's still help me to see Christ every day. It brings me into a place of worship and praise. Not a day goes by that I don't continue to listen to it, and i cannot begin to tell you how many times I have sung "Make My Life A Prayer To You" so thank you so much Melody. I have continued to follow your ministry and prayed so diligently for you when you were ill. I still give Keith's music to people who have not heard of him and I made sure that our three girls (ages 23, 20 and 18) know Keith's music so they can keep it going for generations to come. I could go on forever, but I'll end with this - after I reunite with my Savior in glory one day, and find my family, Keith is next on my list to find and thank. And then I will find Josiah and Bethany and tell them how I came to know and love Jesus Christ because their daddy was faithful and did what God told him to. I love you guys. Thanks so much. God bless and be assured of my prayers.

Every time I hear "Make my Life a Prayer to You" I feel the Spirit of God who spoke through Keith as well- he was the only artist I ever cared to see in person as I could see and feel that he ministered not entertained- he went home on the same day as my mother- that impacted me in a big way- I thank the Lord for both of their lives- I was touched deeply from their lives in incredible ways- miss my mom terribly as I know Keith is missed as well?
